Still cant get my head around Carlo continuing to pick siggy as skipper! Baffles me.

I can understand his other selections, and I suppose even the tactics to some degree, with the key players absent, as we are back to koeman/Silva garbage with 2 or more injuries and suspensions, but his love for iceberg really bothers me.
Siggy whether you like or not was our only attacking threat with DCL...did ok today but of course he is no james or richy...the thing is that we do not have anything better.

Knew the result as soon as I saw the team sheet. The amount of ambition we lack at the club is truly awful. No one can say that team put out today was one that was looking for anything other than a draw.

we lack pace big time, so much dead wood. We have zero options on the wings and the only wingers we had today were only good enough for the bench! Says it all

defence conceding yet again and why why why have we allowed ourselves to rely on dcl without a back up? You can’t expect him to play every game and be 100 percent.

great start thrown away by lack of ambition in the market, failure to get rid of the deadwood and an absolutely shocking team selection today.

Oh look who’s popped out the woodwork

Of course.

Now share what he got wrong, and what he should have done?

IMO he should have started one of Bernard/Gordon/Iwobi instead of Gomes, kept the same shape we have played all season and at least offered some sort of threat in transition/on the counter.

I’d have also like to see Doucoure played further up field giving us some more legs in the final third.

Newcastle weren’t/ aren’t as big a threat as Southampton - they don’t press hard and think we played into their hands with our team selection and tactics.

He was short of options for sure.

Not replacing Kean was a glaring mistake that has backfired a lot quicker than anyone thought. A lot on here called that out at the time as well.
We had a real feel good factor going a few weeks ago, Spirit of the Blues etc, and the end of the window looks to have blown it ?

In the first half we had no one running in behind. We played a lot of side to side and backwards passes across the middle, never threatening to break through.

In possession we had Delph drop in to left back and Nkounkou out on the left wing, receiving the ball with a defender marking him, rather than having the play in front of him (like he would if he was at left back).

When we got it wide we only had DCL in the box.

We ended the match with Delph left back and Doucoure right back. I think because we started with the wrong side in the first place.

Any team playing away from home with five of their best players missing is going to struggle.

We’ve had 7 games. 4 of them away. Two of those games against top 6 teams. It’s not been that bad a start. The table will be skewed a little bit as some teams will have had 4 home games against easier opposition. We need a reaction in the home game against United. Digne, James and maybe Coleman will be back. A win there and we are right back on track .

The Richy red card really affected our momentum. Our players need to learn from that we must not get these worthless red cards.

offensively was wrong. The team needed ball carrier, Even inexperience Gordon and half decent Bernard will be more suited than siggy and Gomes.

we simply don’t have tactical options up front with pace and runner. The game would’ve open more in our favour if we were to sit back and rely on counter with pace, but we restrict ourselves by playing players with inferior abilities in those position

without pace and width, the only option left is to pass and we did that, passing aimlessly for large part because there were no one to aim for at wide area. We end up facing 2 banks of four at every attaching phase today.
