Can we please stop the comparison between Carlo’s football and Allardyces. I beg anyone to go back and watch Arsenal away under Allardyce, Anfield away (the Rooney pen one), The Spurs away game. We barely mustered an attack in these games. Nothing Carlo has served up at any point in his tenure has been anywhere close to this.
Nor has it been anywhere near to Martinez losing 3-0 at Southampton without making a sub. Getting pumped 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield twice.
Nor anything approaching what Koeman dished up losing 4 in a row at Chelsea (2-0), Spurs (3-0) Atalanta (3-0) United (4-0), before rounding his tenure off losing 5-2 to a tragic Arsenal team at home. Let’s not forget Pennington in a back 5 in another Anfield pummelling.
Then Marco Silva. 6-2 at home to Spurs, 5-2 against Liverpool. Couldn’t set up a set over defence to save his life.
That is crap football. I can’t believe some people need a reminder of this. Winning at the Emirates but defending a bit is not crap football. Palace scoring in the last minute agaisnt us from their only meaningful attempt in the match to draw a game we dominated is not crap football. West Ham or Leeds hitting deflected worldies in the last minute to win 50/50 games against us is not crap football. Spurs being gifted a draw after we outplayed them is not crap football.
It honestly wasn’t that long ago we started games KNOWING we couldn’t win. When we turned up at Anfield under Allardyce the gulf between the sides was so big there was no conceivable turn of events where we might have won. We barely got out our half at all, and thanks to some miracle we got a pen and held on. When we went 1 up away at Newcastle under Martinez through Kone (who he dropped Lukaku for), every Everton fan knew we wouldn’t win, that’s how crap we were. Same when Rooney scored under Koeman against Arsenal, no one expected us to not lose and we duly got battered.
Now when we go a goal up it’s a rarity if we don’t win. No one has beaten us by more than 2 goals this season. We’ve been in every game except for Fulham and maybe Newcastle at home. There’s absolutely no comparison between what Ancelotti is serving up and what those absolute clowns before him were doing, none whatsoever. Christ I’d forgotten what a througball looked like at Everton before we started using them again this season. We’ve passed out the back (not always well but we’ve always tried it), we’ve switched formations, we’ve defended set pieces well. It’s night and day, it really is.
