20-21 - 59 points 10th
19-20 - 49 points 12th
18-19 - 54 points 8th
17-18 - 49 points 8th
16-17 - 61 points 7th
15-16 - 47 points 11th
14-15 - 47 points 11th

This is it, we're basically now back at the level we were in Koeman's first season, only the rest of the league is much more competitive in the middle-pack.

Don't let league positions fool yas boys. It is an improvement.

Last season that total got you 6th/7th.

Points is where I concentrate on. 59 points on average is 7th to 8th place finish most seasons.

59-66 points is a 5th-8th spot finish.

66-70 points is an average top 4 finish.

We were 1 win away from 62 points. Last season that got 5th.

It's consistency of points totals. We solidify consistent 60 point a season, depending how the league pans out, we're in that top 6.

Our points total since Moyes left...
72 - Martinez
47 - Martinez
47 - Martinez
61 - Koeman
49 - Koeman/Big Sam
54 - Silva
49 - Silva/Carlo
59 - Carlo

It's a downward curve with 1 season of possibility.

Stick with Carlo. Stay consistent. See where it goes
I actually think we should take that Martinez 72 point tally out of any future reckonong of how well an Everton team is doing. It's like setting an Everton team the task of reaching Mount Olympus.

That season Roberto sprinkled stardust on an old but experienced outfit and got a magical season from them. I said when he left that we wouldn;t see an Everton team get within distance of it for a decade or more and it's proving to be the case.

What I do expect, though, is us pushing into the 60 point bracket and EL territory. We had it in our sights and then the team allowed themselves to be overwhelmed by the prospect of actually securing a Euro spot. That's what we brought Ancelotti in - or so I thought - to bring composure in and get a team believing in itself. The reverse happened though and their confidence went down like a lead balloon.

For those who think he is the answer, how long do we wait for success?
There is no way anyone rational would think a season and a half - including one summer transfer window - means he's had long enough. He's one of the most successful managers in the history of the game, and he started at pretty much the ground floor in terms of squad quality.

I don't think this will be Carlo's team until the start of the 22/23 season, and we'll see what he can really do with Everton at the end of that season.

dave he’s signed 4 players so it’s not his team yet is it?

chopping and changing when he haven’t even let Carlo build yet it’s beyond idiotic
Did Rodgers need to sign a load of players to make that Leicester team his in a big hurry? Did Roberto have to have all his own players to make Everton a possession based team rather than the route one team he inherited?

He's been here a season and a half.

I like Carlo, but there really isn't many excuses we can line up for him once we all agree that he's not best served by a DoF who's a busted flush (but who he has kept in his job).

We brought him in to transform that collective garbage. He hasn't managed it. And one of the players he brought in is taking the utter piss and destroying team morale.
I suggested this might be the case, but we don’t know that for sure, so let’s not state it as though it is fact.

He got 10 points more than the season before with pretty much the same squad, i wasn’t expecting miracles, but that could be deemed as a progression of some sort.

Ask yourselves, right now, all of you, even if we were to get in the next best thing in management, is Everton the kind of place they could succeed right now?

Every season without a trophy fosters greater disillusion amongst the fan-base and makes everything feel on a knife-edge game to game.

The club has been fundamentally broken since the Koeman days - we have to heal first.
