Because Real Madrid, the biggest club in the world want him. It’s that simple.

Same reasoning when we sold our best midfielder - the key to the then manager's way of playing - to PSG for £30m despite Napoli having turned down a £50m bid for Allan from them the same summer.

Nah mate, we need to change.

Indeed.

But when it was Big Sam, Silva, Koeman and Bobby in charge of “these gimps” no such apologism for mediocrity was put forward.

Instead we were all calling for their heads.

There is a weird notion around that all the dross we have witnessed since football returned after lockdown last season is attributable to everyone but Carlo.

Well, plenty of his team selections were proven to be poor and a lot of his tactics were demonstrably found wanting.

He is definitely a light of a former day and I cannot fathom how Real Madrid think he is the answer to their problems.

(if they have any, that is...I haven’t been following Spanish football recently :))
Is probably true, and I accept that has been my stand point in previous periods of utterly dross togger ball. Carlo gets a pass from me because he has done it all, won it all, managed the top calibre of player. Two of the managers you listed got relegated. One of them was a survival specialist up until this season. Different kettle of fish. At some point we have to put faith in a manager to build a squad capable of winning. CA was the one for me. At some point you also have to accept that the players just arent good enough. So do you want to have a manager of the pedigree you listed or CA in charge of the rebuild?

I don't do twitter, but for once this is actually something to get worried about. If we lose Ancelotti, where on earth do we go from here? We have no manager, we have a DOF with a poor track record overseeing a transfer policy that will be completely disrupted by the uncertainty, and we have more players signed by a previous manager who will probably not fit the incoming manager's plans.

I genuinely think people are right to be worried. This has the potential to be a complete and utter disaster for the club.
...or an opportunity to correct what was always likely to be a mismatch.

"David Moyes, Nuno Espírito Santo and Eddie Howe are all likely to come under consideration as the club begin to formulate a shortlist of candidates to replace the Italian at Goodison Park."
