They are

but it’s also fair to question why the manager chose a mental system which was proven not to work, then when it clearly wasn’t working, didn’t change it until we inevitably went a goal down
With the players he has he can only really effectively go with the four centre backs and play on the break,at home teams have us worked out. Parker's team talk must have been one of his easiest this season. Go at them like you did in the second half of the home game and they have no heart. Then he ran a replay of the Newcastle game. The manager can set tactics but can't legislate for players who decide not to give a hundred percent and with the poor squad depth doesn't have the options available to change them.

I agree that’s the best 11 and we should start to do better with one game a week if they all stay fit.

Don’t we also have the rearranged league game against Villa to fit somewhere as well?
I can see your point, but what if we make the EL qualifying rounds next season, plus cup games. If they struggle playing two in a week now, imagine an early start and multiple weeks of it right through the season.

Ey???

fgs, the other day he didn’t do any of that, and he had every regular first-teamer from the last 2 months available bar DCL.

We’d have been better to play four cbs the other day as we might have actually done okay defensively.

As it was, he played five central midfielders, two full-backs who left us completely open and a young cb pairing who’d never played together

you absolutely cannot excuse that. There was no plan, it was just a load of players dropped onto the pitch

he had King, Iwobi and Bernard available - who all would have offered more balance just by one of them playing on one flank, whether in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 (if he really wanted to play Gylfi)

Whatever the set up a manager can't legislate for players who just let themselves get overrun. Too many in this squad who don't have the mental strength for the Prem Where you have to do it week in week out.

Never known our home form being so bad? Martinez second or third season maybe
We lost 9 in 93-94 [In 42 game season], since then our most has been 8 in 96-97,and 8 in 2015/2016, one more and its 6 already.
We had 7 home defeats in 97-98, 01-02, 05-06,
6 home defeats in 03-04, 11-12,

But he played James, Gylfi and Gomes in the same area of the pitch against a pressing, mobile side who had had eight days rest (and he even said out after the game we were physically outmatched)

I love the bloke to bits and he’s by far the best manager we’ve had in 35 years, but that was a ludicrous decision. You can blame the players and that’s fine, but he thought it was a sensible idea to play a sluggish, narrow midfield against a side with plenty of power in that area. And then when it didn’t work - clearly - he didn’t change it

the one player we had in the team who does press is Doucoure, and he was playing deep on the right side and clearly looked shot so couldn’t get up and down

he got it badly wrong the other day and there’s no mitigation for that because we only had DCL out

We do indeed
So 2 midweek games
Considering most of the teams around us have Europe as well we are better placed fitness and freshness wise to finish the season strong
Keeping all our players fit is crucial
Our best 11 playing week in week out should do well

If we get EL ,then 4 or 5 first team signings will leave the likes of Coleman ,Holgate Siggy Gomes Delph ,Davies Nkounkou to do the heavy lifting in the early qualifying rounds of Europe

I don't think I have seen anyone asking for Carlo to be bulleted ( sorry if I have missed them), but the statements about people shouldn't be challengig and questionong Carlo, his team selections and tactics is just a bit odd, especially on the back of some of the home performances. He's still early days into his Everton career, and is probably the best thing that's happened to everton aside from bill getting spawny with moshiri and uncle Uzzy, and I can't wait until he gets a few more new signings in, as Allan, doucure, James and especially ben Godfrey have been superb and kicked us on.

Carlo has mugged me off good and proper with his deployment of the wall and picking up points in big away games, but anyone who thinks the axis of treacle (Sig/gomesh/James) is a good idea in the same side is having a laugh.

It was a criminally unbalanced and once paced (reallllllly slow) selection against Fulham that played into their hands - it bordered on arrogance (a trait in our players also unfortunately) in that he thought he could just throw his trusted Senior players, who have let us down many times before, into the side, and the result would just happen. Put iwobi or Bernard on, or even onyango in the middle with Tom D - I think we start better, more on the front foot

I am desperate for him to succeed with us, and have faith that these frustrating, awful performances will disappear soon, but I won't accept not questioning his calls and decisions, when they are so badly wrong.

Not exactly blessed with options though. Amazing how possibly bernard and iwobi are huge answers to a problem.
Truth is. They aint. But we need something to cling onto as a reason.
They certainly aren't the options we want, but it's surely understandable that people think they may have been better bets? Iwobi is frustrating as hell but he at least offers a willingness to carry the ball forward and more pace than the others. The team looked like it would be slow and one dimensional on paper, and it was slow and one dimensional on grass. I have no idea whether playing Iwobi would have changed the result, but I would have preferred to see it from a balance perspective nonetheless.

He picked a team with tomorrow in mind. It was disrespectful to Fulham and we got caught out. If you rotate your squad unneccesarily then you always run the risk of a poor performance.

What are you talking about disrespectful. He changed a few defenders. Other than that who the hell did he rest that was disrespectful. I dont think theres a team in this league that doesnt rotate.
Not playing the four centre backs at home to fulham isnt disrespect.

He sets the team up so negatively, we sit on our own 18 yard box and wait for something to happen, it's very passive and that is on the manager as much as the players.
