They have a better GK, RB and arguably CB. Their CM is better than ours plus they have pace in abundance in attack, something we sorely lack. Overall they've got a better, more balanced team.

I think one more window of 3-4 new faces for the starting XI and we'll then be in a better position to challenge.
I really don't think Leicester are that much better raw talent wise (for example I don't rate their CBs that highly at all) but they've done a better job recruiting for a system and developing a team so they obviously play better than us. We aren't making progress on this front either.

We have had some good results this season.

The idea that all fans want entertaining is laughable, I've said it before, I don't watch Everton to be entertained, I watch them to see us win.

But you are only ever as good as your last match on here.

Not about entertainment for me at all. You can play well without stringing 700 passes together.

Issue is, we genuinely just don't really have a way of playing that seems like they know what they're doing from an attacking stand point. We don't sustain pressure, we move the ball so slowly.

I'm not saying Carlo wants us to do that – I'm almost certain he wants us playing much quicker - but I think we have to question why there hasn't been more progress in that regard.

Every attack of ours seems to rely on one player doing thing perfectly. Just want to see us create more chances, because everything shows (including stats and just watching the game) that we're actually pretty clinical.

Our attacks break down cos some players cant even play a 5 yard pass at times.

Yes our build-up is slow, but our main issue is stringing passes together.

I watch every other team and they manage it with ease, pass and move, sure you can blame the manager, but I've never played the game above U16 Sunday League and I know how to pass and move, expecting a manager having to teach pro players this concept is breathtaking.

There seems to be this misconception that people saying we need to be better in attack are talking about entertainment when really it's about it being really hard to win games when you don't score. It's a practical thing.

Then you must be relieved that the last time we were entertained was in the Martinez era.

Ive said for about 2 years we need a door unlocker in midfield.

Gomes simply doesnt/cant do it enough and Hamez cant play every game.
We don't only need that though, we need someone to move the ball from our backline to the door unlocker. Davies and Allan are ok but not enough on their own, Doucoure makes about 2 runs a game which isn't enough, Gomes can't be counted on to show up and the rest of the options are bad. We need either a box to box player or a DM that can pass forward.

And yes we need someone to back up James that can be counted on but they'll suffer the same fate as James if we don't fix the players deeper first.

We don't spend enough time in the opposition half to have a sustained period of pressure, which means the way we play won't translate to having a sustainable offensive strategy that will guarantee a top 5 or 6 finish in the table. we have been clinical, yes, but lucky at times too. We don't offer enough in attacking areas and that needs addressing.

Of course. I do not have time to sit in the analysis room and analyze every Everton match. I'm open to the possibility that my opinion may be wrong.

At the same time, I think many of the analyzes tend to overcomplicate the subject, and it has become a bit of a hipster thing. Where something completely ordinary is blown up to become something sensational.

Then it is of course difficult to free yourself from your own football philosophy, and the glasses you see football through. But so far I think we have done well in terms of points, even though the curve is declining, but overall I am not impressed with the way we play football.

The problem comes if we do not reverse the trend and continue to play this type of football. I can accept this type of football as long as we win, but if we end up in 8.9, 10th place and worse with this way of playing football, it takes away all the joy for me. Then I rather take an 11, 12 place, and where we actually try to score goals.

and I generally agree and am somebody who actually sees football as being about more than just results and titles. I don’t like % football and bus parking as a rule

however, given he is starting to build something and has only gotten in 4 players he probably really wanted, I don’t really care as much if our style is not currently very attractive or creating enough. I see lots of context and reasons for us not being very good in parts of the season. I’m assuming it’ll be better next season as I’ve seen what we have done when his players are all fit and in the team. If we are still creating feck all and having regular Newcastle/Fulham performances next season I would look at it differently (but tbh would still be willing to wait)

for me this is where the patience with a manager comes in. It’s not going to be perfect in the beginning, it’s rare it all clicks from the get go.

so right now, worrying about “the trend” to me makes less sense than just letting him get on with it and not overthinking

and I get you on the joy part, but we have a culture of not competing and not bringing much joy to the supporters for many years now, I can handle another meh season when I can see things changing and even the people criticizing now would admit they can see progress in other areas from what he took over

im going to make a prediction. I think we will soon become a team we will all enjoy and love. In majority of your average prem league/cup games we will be more consistently strong and balanced , and win more.....and on top of that in the big games we will be able to hold our own whilst still posing a threat. In those games it may still verge on the more negative but we will feel we are competing and always capable of a win. In short, the opposite of the utter dung we have been subjected to for a long while

Our right back against City can’t hit a three yard pass without scooping it like his foot is a spoon. Every touch he takes is a miscontrol and he can’t cross a ball properly. I’m not sure what people expect from Carlo when he has to deal with stuff like that. Watching Pickford Keane and Coleman trying to put a few passes together between each other under no pressure whatsoever is painful. I mean Keane shanked his first three touches in the United cup game straight back to the opposition for no reason. Reckon Carlo tells them to play like league 2 players when it comes to match day? Of course not. There’s just a core of lower league standard players in this squad that due to injuries and lack of competition are playing far too often and are dragging everyone around them down.

Olsen Holgate Godfrey Mina Digne Allan Docuoure Richalrison James DCL all perfectly decent premier league players to help us push into the top 6.

Pickford Coleman Keane Davies Siggurdson Bernard Gomes wouldn’t get into any other premier league team. Half of them can barely trap a football and move it onto a team mate properly. Coleman and Pickford struggle with kicking, Bernard Keane and Siggurdson can’t run, Gomes can’t regulate his performance between being good one game then looking like he’s a celeb at soccer aid the next match.

If we get rid of the players on the bottom list and add to the players on the top list then everything gets better. At the moment Siggurdson and Pickford are capable of ruining the performance of the other 9 players in a team in a few minutes.
