2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

I want us to just go back to the formation we started the season with and play the best players available for each position. I think we moved to a 3-4-3 with wing backs to try and cover the fact we were getting exploited down the right, the idea being that with the 3-4-3 you have 2 players covering the right side of the pitch so James's lack of defensive ability is not so easily exploited. This could work in theory, but I feel we have got overloaded in the centre against the likes of fulham (Second Half) and Leeds.

It seems like Carlo gave up of 4-3-3 as soon as we lost one game and that was a game without Richy, so isn't really a fair assessment. Go back to it, it's been more successful than what we've tried and play the best available players in each position. Carlo seems to have given up on his "football is simple" mantra".

Next week go back to 4-3-3 and go with: Pickford, Holgate, Godfrey, Keane, Nkounkou, Allan, Doucoure, Gomes, James, Richarlison, DCL

that's assuming Nkonkou is fit and Coleman and Kenny still aren't fit. If we are to believe Nkounkou is injured it becomes more tricky but I would try Delph. He has a history in that position at Man City which is more than can be said of Iwobi.

I agree with going back to 433/451, with Nkounkou or Delph at left back.

Problem is we don't have full backs now which makes it hard to find any balance to our team, and hugely effects our attacking options...

We can give Nkounkou a chance but he is inexperienced...we have no options at right back....davies and Iwobi cant play those positions..

We should have signed a Right back in the summer, we now need to find someone in January...probably worth trying to bring a left back in on loan if there's reasonable options out there..

In reality, we're already waiting for next season, and adding another 5-6 players in the summer...this is only the start of a complete rebuild of our squad

why is it odd?

I did. In another thread that was started by another British Columbian the day before I joined. Thought I’d just do it there rather than start a new thread.
Well, how do I explain this, your user name is a term our beloved neighbors use to describe Goodison because in one area of the ground it still has its original seating

Um.... [Poor language removed]. I didn’t know that. Well that’s an embarrassing way to start of here.

the name comes from a character that matthew mcconaughey played in the movie dazed and confused.

We have 2 right backs and holgate and as an emergency who has experience there.

We have 2 left backs and Delph as an emergency who has experience there.

I know the squad still needs rebuilding, but I'm talking about what we can do with the squad now.

It only makes sense to change your system to accommodate players if you then play those players in their strongest position. It really doesn't make sense to over complicate a formation to still play people out of position. It makes even less sense that it's to shoehorn in players that aren't even in good form.

Who are the 2 right backs...please don't say Kenny, I'm actually looking for us to play with good players...

Who are the 2 left backs?...Digne is out for 3 months, and then will take a few weeks to get match fitness back...

Would like to see us go back to 4-3-3 and play the team we won so well with early on by taking control of the midfield.

Godfrey for Mina at the back. Mason H RB if Coleman isn’t fit.

Job’s a good un. I personally don’t like 3-4-3 at all

Nor do I, most teams play 3 central midfielders so you are one short in midfield straight away and you end up with 1 running towrads your back 4!

More I think about it the more it seems Carlo wasn't the right fit.

Still has time to get it right but when you see the useless cowards in our squad its obvious now we needed a no nonsense manager who prides fitness and hard work.

The Everton way = Simeone, Mourinho, Poch, Biesla.

For too long post Moyes we have gone for style over grit and what has it brought us?

Coleman and Kenny

Digne and Nkounkou

But of course you knew the answer to this, you were just being snarky. My point is simple play the best player we have available in each position. Don't play Davies and Iwobi as wing backs.

This is what Carlo should do moving forward. If none of those I've mentioned are fit you play holgate and Delph in those positions.

Not a fan of switching systems to shoe-in your best players. Even less of a fan of any system with Tom Davies in it. What was he thinking?!!

Get out of our Club, you archaic fraud!

Very early days yet for Carlo Ancelotti to have sorted everything out and get his team and system in place. However, I do feel that there is enough quality in the squad to have done better in our last five or so games; the manager just hasn't made the most of what's available to him. Like I've said before though, patience is the key and the guy needs time to get everything in place. I believe that a better picture of our progress (or otherwise) under Carlo Ancelotti will be evident around Dec/Jan of the 2021/22 season.

I dont think it is time for him to go yet despite my rantings yesterday, I do think he shouldnt be beyond question though. With people like CA questioning them will hurt them professionally and inspire them to improve, or so you might hope.

What I would say is looking at the game yesterday one team gave their all for their manager, ran themselves in to the ground, knew the formation, knew the game plan and it wasnt Everton....... Leeds were much like Southampton a few weeks ago and they were lucky not to have gone down! Imagine what someone like Bielsa or Hassenhuttl could get from a team of Premier League players or a squad like ours, we do have good players!

My point is CA doesnt know his best formation, doesnt know his strongest line up, selections are baffling (To say the least), the game plan seems to be different every week and the players seem confused. With teams in transition you can see what they are trying to do but with Everton I dont see anything, just 11 players put out every week and CA behind them saying try and win today eh lads! It just isnt working, CA should get the system and style of play he wants and has been successful with then get the players around that, if we dont have those players or they cant step up then get rid of the rubbish and buy better because at present I cant see us finishing top 10 without spunking a barrel load of cash in January.

Again I thought we had turned the corner and yet again Everton sucks the very soul out of every single supporter.... We are cursed and forever destined to be the second team in this City, as much as that pains me! Even teams like Leicester, Birmingham, Swansea, Middlesborough, Blackburn (When they were crap), Wigan and Portsmouth have all won major trophies since our last one in 1995... It almost needs a good clear out from Directors to Finch Farm and Goodison Park staff because we have a losers mentality.......
