Celtic or Rangers?

I always made the Celtic/Everton/Catholic connection but it's more of a myth really. I was raised Catholic so always identified with Celtic and, being descended almost exclusively from Irishmen, I also identify with celtic/everton not conforming to the "establishment". (As in when I think of England I can't help but thinking of Essex and "greater london", west ham, the queens english, cottages, blah blah e.t.c, more of a North-South thing, but anyway all of this is off topic slightly)
But both Everton and Liverpool have a shedload of Scottish and Irish fans. When the majority of Irish emigrated, Liverpool werent even in existence, or at least Everton were the more sucessful club, so I think alot of early Irish immigrants were Everton supporters, hence perhaps the Catholic connection?

Interesting discussion on this Irish forum regarding the whole connection between Everton, Liverpool, Rangers and Celtic. It ends up in a bit a spat and the thread is closed. But looks like everyone is confused really.

everton/liverpool catholic/protestant - Foot.ie Forums

There's a lot of unsubstantiated stuff in that link, mate. No real hard evidence either way.

All I know for sure is that KOP stands for King Over Pope - FACT!

Rangers for me, although am a Dundee FC fan above anything else in Scotland.

On the religion bit, the St Domingo's team was from a Methodist (Protestant) not Catholic church...

Just thought it would be interesting seeing what people made of it in Ireland, and they seem as perplexed as people over here. Like ST points out above, both Liverpool and Everton have their roots in methodism, which kinda settles the whole debate.

But Everton are the catholic team
