2017/18 Cenk Tosun

I agree completely with you here.

The problem is the thousands of Turks depicting him as the second coming on here and on Twitter, when at best he'll be a slightly above average striker who will do a job perhaps when he settles in. There's absolutely nothing to suggest he's going to be a superstar here, so the hyperbole just gets Evertonian backs up, because as a bunch we're a realistic set of fans and don't regard footballers as superheroes.

We are, essentially, the cleverest fans in the universe. I've always said so.

I think Tosun’s performance against West Brom was unexpectedly dreadful.
But I have to admit Everton vs West Brom was the first PL match that I watched without any of the top 6 playing, and I was a bit confused ... it did “kind of resemble a rugby game" with lots of “wrestling” and players scared to control the ball expecting anytime a really hard tackle by an opponent, maybe even a little concerned for being harmed … and in the end someone got harmed badly.

Btw why didn't Salomon get a red card for "breaking" McCarthy's leg ?
I think Everton could have turned around the game if he did receive a red card.

Overall, I do think Tosun will do well in the premier league (I don't think anyone but some Besiktas Ultras ever considered him a super star), and I believe he has already added some quality to the team, trying to integrate players around him to attacking movements. Other than against West Brom I think his performance was good and as long as Niasse is on fire there is no need for real concerns and since Sam is not going to play more than one striker at a time Tosun can take his time to settle. Think about it that way, maybe Niasse's value is increasing (to its real value) and Everton can/could sell each striker in the end for more than 30 million pounds or whatever amount will be IN for good strikers around that time.

Even if Tosun hasn't performed to the best of his ability he has created more completion for places. Let him settle get a pre-seadon under his belt and the judge him when he has had a run for games.

The West Brom game was just.. bad. Awful team selection that compounded the fact that Morgan Schneiderlin just didn't want to know anymore.

Who knows, with the midfield two of Rooney & Davies then it stands to reason that Tosun could've had a bit more joy that night. As it happened, he was practically invisible.

Definetely not a superstar, he was not even enough for Besiktas' gameplay in the Turkish League. The second the opponent parks the bus, Cenk just vanishes from the field since he tends to sit on the laps of the CBs. I do not imply Everton is a worse club than Besiktas but Everton's opponents will not park the bus against them, conditions that Cenk will have in Everton will be more favourable to him. You can also see why he outperformed himself in the UCL, he could find the spaces he could exploit because no team would park the bus against Besiktas there.

All I am saying is, there is a pretty good chance that he will perform good in Everton, maybe even score 20 goals in a season. If there are some people that expect him to be next Harry Kane, he can not do that yet. Maybe two seasons later he could get close to that level but not at this moment.

We see cenk as a superstar in besiktas in his last 1.5 years not because we are unrealistic nationalist fanatics who love every bit of their squad lol
We loved him because he scored amazing goals for us and nearly handle our second league title in a row.
Also we know that EPL is a whole new level but as I watch football all around the world like an addict, I can compare cenk to the world standarts and cleary say that he is much more than promising if you invest on him. Everton can create a 50-60mil stiker out of him with so little effort. That's why I am ashamed when I see how sam handle cenk. But for now these are just meaningless gibberish a turk speaks and I will have to wait until cenk gets the chance to show that he is not an average player.

Based on what I've seen so far I hope that he is an average player.

Welcome to the world of watching overhyped premier league games.

Outside the top 6, it’s really not that good.

Btw why didn't Salomon get a red card for "breaking" McCarthy's leg ?

Awful injury, but it was an unfortunate accident rather than a foul.

I don't agree with you. I think intention is not required for a foul and for receiving a card (yellow or red). Many fouls result of players reacting too late and not necessarily intending to foul. In the end, he did hit him hard, even if he didn't intend to.

Kind of hard to avoid when Mccarthy came from behind him and slid in, taking the place of the ball that rondon was clearly intending to strike.

Because it was an accident.

@ Morgan Schneiderlin
I remember watching Everton vs ?? (I think it was Arsenal) and the German host/moderator said something like " He is running in the wrong direction, ok now he realized it himself ... ". The whole think was happening somewhere on the right wing upfront and it could have turned into a good chance for everton (I think Theo was trying to play a give-and-go) but Schneiderlin got the ball turned around started running back (playing it safe) until he realize that no one was pressuring him and turn back forward again but then the chance was gone ... and I head to think oooh this is why fans don't like Schneiderlin ... Anyway it was funny how the host said "He is running in the WRONG direction!"

love the way he was clearly out with his mrs last night in this weather and seemed perfectly fine

but yeah he cant handle the weather, if that was the case he would be at home wrapped in 10 quilts, not hitting town

Can’t handle the weather despite playing in Frankfurt for years. More lies from the Gravy man, that’s not to say Cenk won’t come good mind you... Just I and many others fail to see how he can handle the premier league without playing!!
