Tell that to @davek Who thinks we can easily sell players

Hodgson isnt a bad manager. We have to hope he gets Tosun firing and not only do they want him in the summer but his value increases.

Thats a good point on the financials.

However, if that was the case then why would he not choose to seek a move elsewhere as its been obvious since he joined that he would never be a starter.

He wanted to prove to himself and everyone else that he can compete with the best footballer at the highest level. He believed in himself and his abilities.Let's remember, he was born and raised in Germany and has German footballing training. He played for Germany U21. He moved to Turkey around the age of 20 in order to gain experience and get to play first team football while better himself financially at the same time. There are about 4 leagues above the quality of Turkish Super League where a player from Turkey would like to move: EPL, La liga, Serie A, and Bundesliga. If a young German-Turkish player has moved from Bundesliga to Turkey, he will go back to Bundesliga only if he is unhappy or unsuccessful in Turkey. Their aim is to move to the well established clubs in the other three leagues. Most Turkish players are overpaid and they underperform. They like easy life. That is why you don't see many Turkish players moving abroad. But, a half a dozen ambitious youngsters have done it in the past before they turned 21 and made a name for themselves in Turkey.

What about other European leagues that are at par with TSL or slightly better in terms of quality and competitiveness like Russia and Portugal? He will be forgotten there. He will hardly appear in the Turkish press. It will hurt his ego, and it's very likely that the manager of the national team will not invite him since he has no idea how well he has performed. It's more like a career suicide. Also, the Russian league is ranked above Turkey but it is a very big country, traveling is hard and the weather is not appealing. Portuguese league is not more competitive than the TSL despite the fact it is ranked higher. It is also not lucrative for Turkish players. Eredivisie is too small and not competitive enough; financially, it is also not lucrative. Again, no leagues other than the EPL, La Liga, and Serie A will grow their ego.

Surely though he could see that he was never going to be a starter in the side almost as soon as he joined the club...even this summer he seems to have rejected offers to leave (even on loan) to have a chance of starting somewhere.

Seems madness to me to back himself to play when literally anyone could see he was out of favour.

The only 2 Turkish players at the moment who look quality are the one at Leicester and the other at Juve, both centre backs...none of the rest seem to be top class.

High risk to sign Turkish players as well as Turkish clubs would only take them on cheap loans and they are extremely hard to sell.

There is also Cengiz Under in Roma. He has been struggling with injuries this season but he is a top quality player. I have been following Yusuf Yazici for some years. He transferred to Lille at the start of the season for €17M. Although my thoughts about him declined a little lately, his style resembles Mesut Ozil. Watch out the young kid Abdulkadir Omur, only 19 years old, he is sidelined this season due to injury. He resembles Messi. He is short like, him, a left foot, very quick with great acceleration, and he is great dribbler. He uses the right wing and cuts in to middle and shoots well, a very similar to Messi but not there yet. His progress has been followed by many top clubs for a few years now.

Under seems to be not 'quite' quick enough...not 'quite' good enough in his decision making etc...

Not sure on the other two...

Im just hoping Tosun is off to Palace and they buy him in the summer.

Personally, I was shocked to learn Everton paid somewhere around £27M for him. Besiktas would have easily let him go for the half price of that amount since the team was under the scrutiny of the UEFA's Financial Fair Play Regulation board. His best seasons were the last prior to moving to Everton. Obviously, the people at Everton did not do their homework before they brought him in. It is truly sad. He has no doubt has qualities but he is not athletic or fast for a striker. In fact, he has slowed down quite bit since he has moved to Everton. It was awful to watch him in the recent Euro game prior to his injury. He is regularly called to Turkish NT but he has been the back up striker or even third option. If two strikers are deployed, then his job is to pull the center backs out of position or block their movements and create space. Hopefully, Crystal Palace signs him to relieve you from that burden.

Btw, there is another quality Turkish center back at Schalke 04, only 19 years old. He moved to Stuttgart last january, played regularly second half in the Bundesliga and was named the young rookie of the year. Schalke 04 brought him in, he was injured prior to start of the season but return to the team in November. he scored 3 goals and provided an assist in consecutive games and was named the player of the month in Bundesliga.

It was £21.5mil i think the £27mil comes from add ons and was in € not £.

Not convinced yet he is going, turned down everything so far. Also he will get picked for the turkish national side no matter what, so no reason he would want to leave for playing time.Plus if we keep playing 2 up top, we would need to find one replacement at a minimum. Maybe 2 with Oumar having no.future too.

exactly two years since he was signed

the word I would use 'underwhelming', but because of several factors, BFS, Silva's awful football, the addition of Kean and loss of his spotlight. Stil though he always loved this club and never had 'pff whatever' attitude. Guess he is off to Germany, a club like Werder Bremen, he is a very good friend with Klassen, so why not.

it didn't work out but the goal I will never forget is the one he scored against Stoke despite heavy snow.
