Can't help but think we're repeating the same mistake we made with Niasse - we're loaning him out too soon in the window.

Wait until end of window, encourage panic buys. If not, loan at the last moment.

The pressure would be increasing on us though? We're the ones desperate to get him off the books. As the deadline approached people could just wait, knowing that we would accept anything just to get him out the door and make some space, especially if in the meantime we'd already added a replacement?

It's also dependent on the player himself agreeing, which is where the holdup has been in the last window also. He'd signalled he wanted to stay in PL, which drastically reduced the market we could sell to and put more pressure on Brands.

With a long lucrative contract the only cards we had to play were his desire to be playing football in advance of the Euros and I'm not convinced his place in the Turkish squad was even dependent on that.

I think sometimes you have to accept you have little to no leverage and just have to take what you can get.

There's a reason the frequency of transfers increases as the window goes on - clubs knee-jerk/panic. The pressure is only on the buying clubs in those situations.

Perhaps we're shifting him to help bring someone else in...

I think the panic goes both ways, particularly if a club has a squad overstuffed with players whose face no longer fits. All of a sudden you are looking at paying 100k p/w for another 6 months to someone who is not going to play or who may block chances for upcoming talent, who could be disaffected and whose presence at the training ground may be counterproductive.

I get your point though, it's a bit like Levy at Spurs. You can wait as the buying club until the last hours and you may get a bargain, but the downside is that the really well run / richer than croesus clubs have gone and done their business already so you may be buying players that have a big question mark over them.

Maybe not a direct replacement but I'd be astonished if there's not a defender brought in by the close of the window.

Signed Benteke for 32 mill. If Cenk does moderatley well there 17 mill on a forward they are happy with it is well in their market.

Surprised they haven't been sniffing around Batshuyi again.
For that To happen he will need to score substantially more than 2 league goals which would be about his Current average strike rate

will be back at FF in August. We are still paying the likes of Garbutt and Besic ffs.

Good finisher and technical ability just so slow, Could work if Palace play two up top.

He also doesn’t spend too much time in the actual penalty area, if he decides to venture into the box then I can see Zaha putting a few across goal for him to tuck away.

They nearly signed him before us so they had a plan for him. I know some think his lack of pace means he can't contribute in PL but I think in the right setup he could be effective and it seems Hodgson thinks he can make it work. I half thought Ancelotti may have tried rejuevenating his Everton career, but maybe the form of DCL and the potential of Kean put paid to any plans in that regard?

Another loan ffs

He's on big money and a long contract and he's not playing regular football. Very difficult to get anyone to buy outright, especially if the player himself will only sign for another PL club.
