2019/20 Cenk Tosun

His lack of pace means we couldn’t counter effectively.
Lack of quality in our team means we couldn’t supply him with enough chances when playing possession football.

He suffer either way.

I know we all discuss his lack of pace but let's be honest, how many times have we countered at speed and found CL right in the middle for a tap in?

Its almost a myth that we need pace because we rarely utilise the pace we do have in the squad. As soon as the ball gets to Gylfi we tend to slow our play down just to try and get support close to the front man.

Playing Tosun really wouldn't impact us any worse than playing a striker who doesn't score is affecting us now.

Best thing that can happen is Kean gets minutes, scores and all our hopes and dreams are lobbed on this young man as shoulders because the rest of them are severely lacking

Pace is extremely important mate.

Without it, the option of playing the ball into space hoping he can outsprjnt defenders and get goalside is almost impossible. If that option is gone, we can only rely on wing play and crosses.

With kean, the margin for an overhit pass into space is narrower because he will be able to outsprint defenders and we will find ourselves in a favourable position. Our attacking variety become diversify and more difficult for other team to predict our passes.

Pace is something that we cannot neglect.

I agree mate but what I'm saying is we are neglecting it anyway. Calvert Lewin isn't running the channels time after time and keeping the ball upfield. He's static, not making any runs at all (well apart form the run that hit the back of his foot) He hasn't given any defender in the first 3 games a torrid time, in fact I'd say that each centre back would have walked off and thought "wow, that was an easier game than I imagined".

You can cover the pace issue by having other rapid players in attacking positions.

If we're talking about pace being a factor, Sigurdsson is just as slow as Tosun and it's considerably more important that he has short range speed than a striker.

I don't rate Iwobi, but he does have pace. I'd like to see Tosun given a go with Iwobi behind. There's nothing to lose given the axis of doom that is Sigurdsson and DCL does absolutely nothing.

Sigurdsson should be worried for his place the way he has started this season. The only saving grace I've got for him is that playing up front with DCL is a thankless task. Would probably benefit by having Kean making some decent movement in front of him.

During the last decade or so we have probably signed more dud strikers than anyone else in the league. Cenk is another name on the list to add to the likes of Beattie, Jo, Johnson, Niasse, Kone, Stracq, Etoo, Sandro, Vellios, Beckford, Jelavic and Traore.

I don’t think Tosun has ever been the type of striker to run in behind and outpace defenders and slot. He looks to me like me as a player who manages gets on the end of things in the box, if we ever put decent balls in.

Says a lot more about Walsh/Allardyce and our scouts if they thought were signing some rapid, dribbling striker, than Tosun.

I thought Johnson did alright for us, but yeah the others were not great, to put it politely.

The grass is not always greener. Always thought Cenk was a clinical finisher when given chances but he rarely was.

DCL is better in every aspect than Tosun, aside from the single most important one in finishing. Neither of them are probably going to be good enough.

Seriously though, he ain’t small and hell, he ain’t exactly weak. We could do worse than throw the dice and give him a shot at central midfield. I mean what’s the worst that could happen? I totally think Cenk could be our man.

Just imagine it, the ball comes out to the edge of the 16 yard line and Cenk is running on to it and he puts it right in to the top bin. That’s what I’m talking about!!!

Absolutely unreal tekkers mate honestly!
