What I’m about to ask is part of a totally different conversation than if we’ll finish in the top 4, but it might be relevant for this one too.

It’s a big if, but if we made it, does anybody worry about how we’d actually do in the CL next season?
This is a good point this, everyone, well some think its all great if we can make CL or even EL, reality is different, just like the last time we got into Europe.
If we do make the CL them all good, but its not going to dramatically change things, it could even cause us more problems next season as this squad can barly cope with the league, were not going to add 4 or 5 quality players and them all fit in right away

CL transforms this club.

Personally I believe the owners of the club have a ten year plan and at the moment champions league would put us firmly ahead of their projections for this year . Carlo + stadium + champions league .... this club is deffo heading in the right direction... 5 years from now we will be a totally different prospect hopefully

For me we need 3 players for the team and 2 more for the squad. If we get Champions League it allows us to attract and afford these players. It will also make it easier to keep our 4 CBs happy as there will be games for everyone.

If we got 4th spot and say Arsenal or Spurs win the Europa Cup and / or RS win the CL ( with the winners finishing outside the top 4 ) would we still qualify for the CL?

Yes, unless both wins their tournament and finish outside the top 4 there would be 5 CL places but not 6

We made the knock out rounds not the CL but someone else said that English teams go straight in to the groups now. That’s something like 20 mil just for that

We would drop into the Europa. However I would like to think it is highly unlikely for both them scenarios. Ideally we need both Chelsea and RS out the Champions League ASAP so we can get this elephant out the room.

Yes, the revenue would be a huge lift to the budget, which would permit us to spend the money to attract the players to stay there. CL + Carlo also gives us the heft to make a legit run at most anyone not named Messi or Haaland that's available this summer.

The down side of both of them exiting the CL is it’ll allow them to just focus on their league form more, which may not be a positive thing for us

They both got 3 games in the CL still as both are leading after the 1st leg. More games for them. We just need to win our games and focus on us. Beat West Brom and then see what happens from there

I’m optimistic about the future, based purely on Carlo. If we finish top 4, I don’t think even he could have seen that coming this season! As people have said, it’ll mean we’re ahead of schedule in the project, which is great. But I’ve got a nagging fear that being ahead of schedule means we’re not ready to take the next step in our development. To take the next step we need to start going deeper in the competition, while qualifying for it every year. That will have a massive impact on our revenue, our profile and our ability to attract better players.

The reverse of that is we qualify this season, fail to have an impact and drop out immediately, and the extra games affects our league form which means we don’t qualify again next year. A worst case scenario is the extra games affects our league form so much that we don’t even qualify for the Europa next year. That’ll be a massive step back. A lot of unknowns, but I’m just worried that qualifying ahead of schedule will somehow set us back.

I’m not trying to be negative, but I remember what 05/06 was like after the euphoria of finishing 4th. Being in the CL didn’t attract top quality players, and we finished 11th!

Totally different to Moyes qualification. Finishing 4th auto puts us in the group stages. No qualification round.
That’s instant loads of money and the will to spend it.
Last time we failed to spend any and got the screwed over by UEFA.

only Everton fans can get worried about a compo we havnt even qualified for yet

I think we can all agree on us wanting to qualify, whether it be this season or next, or at least during Carlo’s reign. That’s one of the reasons Carlo was brought in, to put us on the map.

Maybe I’m just overthinking it, and we obviously won’t know what’ll happen or how well or badly we’ll do in the comp until we qualify for it. Hopefully that’ll be sooner rather than later.
