Who were playing in the dutch league, argentinian league and spanish second division when Arsenal, Atletico and Valencia bought them.

We can't afford to buy proven quality so our whole transfer policy is picking up good players from crap leagues and hoping they can make the step up.

Those clubs don't regularly win trophies.
The clubs they play for now win trophies and paid big big bucks for them cos they are proven.Winning clubs buy proven players from clubs who have taken a chance on them.
We take chances but the prices being thrown around for Austin are too much to take a chance.

None of those were anywhere near the price being bandied around for Austin.
Glad your not Moyes if you are prepared to let Vic go for 1-2 million. That would be bad business.

Paying in installments could make this deal possible IMO.

Some Evertonians are complete gobshytes when it comes to players like Anichebe. Victor is a good player who is just starting to reach his potential. He would command a fee of over 5million and he would never even consider moving to somewhere like Burnley, even if Burnley could afford him and Everton wanted to sell him, neither of which is true.

They’re the same people who have been laying into Osman for years.

The last person to bang them in at anything approaching that rate in that league was Dean Ashton, I think?

I think we ended up signing James Beattie instead, as he was considered to be more of a ‘proven’ goalscorer.

Atletico won the uefa cup just last year and Arsenal and Valencia have both won their countries leagues within the last decade.

The fact that he's 23, scored for fun in league 1 and then found it equally as easy to scorer in the next division up, shows me he is worth the risk, Beckford hasn't actually done too great in the Championship so don't use that comparison, use Shane Long whose been a regular scorer for WBA in the prem, and to a comparable extent Jelavic who came from playing against a level not too much better than the Championship.

20 goals before the middle of November is nothing short of phenomenal. As I said, I think the last person to get close to that rate was Dean Ashton, who had scored 20 goals by the January transfer window of 2004/05 season when he was transferred to Norwich.

To reach 20 goals by bonfire night or whatever is just insane!!! Absolutely incredible!!!

Some players, like Jelavic, will score at any level. Kid could score 40 by the end of the season and Burnley are no great shakes. Be suprised if he goes for the type of money we can muster.

That wasn't your point - you said winning teams don't buy Championship players. Instead they go for van Persie, Aguero and Mata.

I was just pointing out that was a pile of crap.

And and... I didn't say let Vic go for £1-2m. I said put him towards the price of Austin, who I think is valued £6m+. So I valued Vic at closer to £4-5m.

So essentially you're talking complete crap AND putting words in my mouth. Good stuff.
