2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

He worked his arse off against Palace and won us the game and then got promptly dropped immediately for one of the manager’s favourites. As I said, it really doesn’t matter what he does.
We’ve had a really tough run of games though haven’t we. I think he’ll get a chance to impress against the next two at home.

I thought in general play he struggled at times against palace but you could see his quality with the ball and he of course had the deciding touches which showed great composure.

He’s not got top tier quality to be able to carry him though IMO.

Can’t have someone threatening the comfort zone of the manager’s favourites — especially not one who hasn’t been here since 2006 and doesn’t play like a traffic cone. Two months on and he’s still paying the price for showing ambition. Classic

Moyes doesn't fancy him which is worrying. Obv prefers Doucoure more and I think he will rather bring in Soucek instead.

Anyone else sick of these manager that have their favourites they prefer over players that can do better for the team?

I know it's a bit taboo to criticise Moyes these days but there's some bizarre player selections going on.

I would be astonished if he started a single game over Doucoure from now until the end of the season.

But he's proven beyond all doubt he can cut it in the PL, Alcaraz hasn't. Big difference.

Carlos has played 4 full games. Goal and an assist so far. Should've had more in that limited time too. The camoes he's been a threat too.

The lad is a genuine footballer. Anyone with eyes can see. We don't have many of them. He's cheap and young.

It's a complete no brainer to buy him. We'll have him, McNeil, Ndiaye with genuine creativity. Buy a wide attacker with pace and we'll be in a better position without spending a fortune.

BTW Ndiaye has no assists for us so far this season.

Obviously completely at fault for yesterday’s loss apparently, according to Moyes.
Nothing at all to do with him throwing on Katastrophe Keane on to instantly turn us back into Rafael’s Defensive Rejects again.

Get Alcaraz signed Moyes. If you can’t deal with easy decisions like this one, what the heel are you doing in charge.

I also felt that Mcneil was woefully off it, far too lethargic for a fresh sub coming on. Doku had free pass to take O'Brien on one on one and that swung the game.
Moyes has often been criticised for being too negative (ask west ham fans). Like Dyche, he reverts to hard working team with little flair, although collectively he gets the team attacking more as a unit.
This isnt a Moyes bashing post by any means. But Moyes really needs to see what the more creative players can do playing in their best positions.

All managers have ‘favourites’, I don’t really understand why it confuses people so much. Some players suit what a manager wants and some don’t, it’s not rocket science.

Doucoure is picked supposedly for his energy but he contributes nothing in midfield in a creative sense.

Why do City always dominate posssession against us? One of the reasons is that Doucoure is playing at 10 for us.

We have Charly who has footballing talent so give him a run at 10, show him confidence and stop playing the man from Mecano
who must be replaced if the dismal relegation threat is not to returm next season.

What does Doucoure and Harrison 'suit'? Alcaraz seemed to "suit" versus Palace and Brentford. He might have carried on being a good 'suit' if he changed his name to Doucoure.

I don’t think it’s that people don’t get that managers have favourites, it’s just confusing when said player is cack.
I was slating doucoure on here when everyone else was telling me how wonderful he was (I think me and @MikeH72 were pretty much the only ones who stuck our heads above the parapet) but it’s clear that the last 2 managers have valued his energy, workrate and pressing in that role. He suits what they want in the position and so becomes a ‘favourite’. Some people definitely seem to struggle to understand the difference between a manager liking what a player offers and them just ‘picking their mates’ as it’s often put.

He works hard, presses properly, and keeps the defensive shape. Is that what I would personally want from my number 10? Nope. It’s clear as day what he offers to managers who value that though.
