2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

Frustratingly it looks like Alcaraz is going to be a player where the manager has an opinion that is likely to be wrong.

Moyes prefers the running and odd goal contribution from Doucoure and it means that even when he throws Alcaraz on for limited minutes it's mostly a waste as he's playing him out of position.

Alcaraz showed so many positive signs in his first 4-5 games. Goal and assist v Palace, put several chances on a plate for Beto (Brentford, Wolves) who annoyingly missed. Also showed some great skill to get some shots away in his first few games. My main criticism of him is a lack of clinical finishing. Should have had 2-3 more goals.

He also had that great free kick Vs Bournemouth in the Cup that hit the post. Don't think I've seen him take one since. That's Moyes/Adam being wrong. Our other set piece takers are woeful.

Moyes has done a great job but for me he is getting this wrong. Alcaraz in the same time as Doucoure would have got 2 goals but contributed a lot more and created way more chances for the other players. He has a directness that none of our other players (bar Ndiaye) have.

Moyes doesn't fancy him which is worrying. Obv prefers Doucoure more and I think he will rather bring in Soucek instead.

Anyone else sick of these manager that have their favourites they prefer over players that can do better for the team?

I know it's a bit taboo to criticise Moyes these days but there's some bizarre player selections going on.
One thing is i get he tried the lad out wide becuase is good to get better idea of positions he can play. Thing for me he tried him in the deeper role in cm once and in the 10. Hopefully we can see more of him in the center now.

So he runs? Puts in the hard yards as Dyche would say. But ultimately he's crap and can't pass a ball 5 yards.
Like I said, I’m not saying it’s what I would do, I’m just saying it’s fairly obvious that Moyes thinks those things are important in the role he’s playing. Alcaraz quite clearly has more ability with the ball at his feet, but if he doesn’t do the things his manager wants from a player in that position he isn’t going to get picked. All managers are like that, it’s not a weird quirk of Everton fate, it’s just how it works.

I know what you're saying but maybe my memory isn't as good as it used to be but does he often win the ball back high up the pitch and we end up scoring after it? I don't think he does. He's just pointless. If Moyes thinks he's such an asset with his running and pressing why announce that he's leaving? I just find the whole thing odd tbh.

They haven’t announced that he’s leaving. They didn’t take up the option of extending his existing contract on the same terms, that’s not to say they aren’t going to offer him a new contract.

How have the rs won the league this year ( and please don't say it's all down to the officials), and why have City dropped off this year? Because they work hard and run all day. This is modern football, running up and down the pitch for 100 minutes is the starting point for every player, and if you can't do that then the amount of talent you have is irrelevant. Players like Le Tissier or Glenn Hoddle would struggle these days as athleticism is valued over most other attributes.
Yes I know how modern football works, but you need more than just being an athlete, Liverpool, city, Arsenal, Villa, Newcastle etc will put talent before hard work,
Moyes maybe the other way, time will tell, but if he wants to keep the likes of doucoure, Harrison etc and have them in the team , then we know how
He wants to build his new Everton and it will end in tears

Sorry how do you bank credit if you’re not allowed to play? The last game Alcaraz started ahead of Doucoure in the number 10 role he won us the game with a goal and an assist. What exactly does “credit in the bank” look like?

Alcaraz is a better footballer than Doucoure, I’m sure his career will bear that out.
In 1 start Alcaraz had the same number of assists doucoure has in 30 starts.

Soucek won’t be joining,
No chance TFG spend big on a 30yr old

I’ll be genuinely amazed if they don’t offer him a deal to be honest, he starts literally every game. Not sure the same will apply to alcaraz, it just doesn’t look like Moyes fancies him for whatever reason.
So if Moyes doesn’t fancy Alcaraz then, who else does he play in the 10 role???
So it doesn’t necessarily mean he will keep him and play him there next season, personally I think if doucoure is playing 10 every game next season, then we will have to have a very good season, Europe id say. Because playing doucoure and similar hard working players with limited talent and Floating around 11tg/12th won’t go down well imo.
