2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

He looked like he was sulking Saturday when he came on. Did the absolute minimum and barely broke out into a sprint. Body language was terrible.
Maybe he just doesn't feel that the manager wants him as that seems to be the case
If Moyes felt he had a future at the club he would be playing him regardless of the potential fee.
Moyes has now more or less said we are safe from relegation if he doesn't get a start from now on he won't be staying next season. I like him and want to see more players in the team that don't look scared of the football.

….sadly, that’s the very low bar we’ve had to get used to. Maybe we’re just delighted at the site of a footballer in an Everton shirt with a modicum of quality. I like him too but I’m perfectly content if Moyes isn’t convinced.

Think this shows the effect of using Doucoure and Harrison over actual quality.

Doucoure literally sat on a football and he was back in the side with that incident and attitude brushed under the carpet -- no one has questioned his desire.

Perhaps if Moyes played his better players that fans pay money to watch then we wouldnt be unhappy...

At 15m I don't see how we can not sign him tbh. Too good a deal to pass up in our position, either he hits the ground running and cements a first team place or we sell him after a year or 2 if it doesn't work out. Would be certain to at least get out money back given his age and potential.
It just doesn't work like that though does it? I mean he's available for what he's available for now, and evidently we're the best option available to him. If he comes here and it doesn't work out, why would he suddenly have more options? In 2 years he'll be 24 about to turn 25, at that point nobody will be seeing potential they'll be seeing someone who's got halfway through their career without making an impact anywhere.

That's not to say we shouldn't sign him, just pointing out the flawed logic of thinking he'll automatically hold his value.

I watched him a few times at Southampton and this was pretty much how it was before being loaned/sold.

I don't think anyone doubts he has talent. He may be one of those players who needs a certain type of manager to encourage and get the best out of him.

Moyes (and tbf his previous managers) see him in training and how he behaves around the place. We just have to trust in the judgement Moyes makes, thats his job..

It does a bit though, I mean we got our 30m back for Kean despite him looking really poor while he was here.

15m is a great deal for Alcaraz, seen enough already to be confident of that personally. We are not getting better for that price.

For that same reason I don't think we would struggle at all to make our money back if it doesn't work out for whatever reason.

….its a nonsense to say ‘we’re not getting better for that price’, I’m sure there’s plenty of examples of players who’ve been bought for similar and very effective in PL. We might pay a few bob more or a few quid less for better if Moyes and the recruitment team are doing their jobs.

Kean was a totally different thing really, he was wanted by bigger clubs than us when he came in the first place and was being touted as a genuine superstar. Alcaraz was being hawked round by his agent and ended up coming to a relegation threatened team where he isn’t playing regularly. Like I said, I like him, but what you’re saying is just patently untrue.
