Never felt so emotional reading a match preview. Yes to everything that you so eloquently lay-out in describing the life of an Evertonian. We have all had enough of football as it is today. It is entirely alien to us mere mortals and we’re all sick of it. But with that sickness is that yearning to feel part of a collective group of fans who support a club we know could be so much more. Big Nev had it right when he mocked a top 6 place as not being enough for Everton. We know this is so far off right now but it doesn’t mean we should accept what we have been served up for the last 3 decades. Your writing describes so much of how we all feel and we need you to replace ‘good times’ Bill as Chairman of this great club! COYB
Thank you mate. That’s a lovely feedback and agree on the paradox of being an Evertonian.

Yeah man, every trip we took to a monied team’s home ground we REALLY stuck it to ‘em! In much the same way Moyes has done with every team he’s managed since.
Yeah struggled beating Top 4 - but we were regularly top half, spending bottom half cash.

I'm not saying the way we crashed out of CL qualification, that FA cup semi vs RS and the Cup final weren't disappointing.
On just about every metric possible, DM's tenure here stands out from the ten years since apart from Martinez first season (which was Moyes team + Lukaku+ a wee bit more license to attack).

Martinezhasn't come anywhere near winning anything with that Belgium team. Likewise Koeman since. They were the guys that sunk us to this... Everyone's being in react / panic / catch-up mode since, inc Ancelotti who clearly didn't fancy what he saw in the long term.

haha - forgive me. I work in an organisation that's headless chickens for the main part, with lots of negativity flying around.

It's my job to identify achievable steps that improve things.

As likely a reality of survival is of course not surviving, in which case our squad quickly looks different and we come back up in something like 3-5 seasons with a better squad mix of youth and local talent.

But if we CAN stay up - I actually think we've moved quite well along that issue of squad mix already - and it's coaching and concentration needed in defence and OF COURSE a decent forward which for the love of god escapes me how that wasn't a priority at season start. If we fix that in the next two weeks we've a healthy chance of staying up.
