Chippy Savoury

For years as a kid I always assumed that there was fish in them. Obvs there's 'fishcake' and 'savory cake' which are different things but I always thought a savory cake was a slightly bigger, less fishy version of a fishcake.

I suppose the sage (and dill, maybe?) had made me think it was a bit fishy or something..
 
Anybody know what goes into a savoury ? From what little I can find, it's mash with sage and onion, or sage and onion stuffing, then deep fried in batter. Is that it, just seems its missing something else ? I've got a hankeringwith to make some today.
When I was a kid a guy called Joe Breeze owned the local chippy he used to make homemade curry rolls which were basically savoury rolls with curry spices in the middle and were off the scale.

I used to walk up a hill to College. There was a Bakery on it that sold Chicken Curry Pasties. A Cornish Pasty shape but with Sausage meat, Potato, breadcrumbs and Chicken Curry in them. OMG. The burn marks on the side of my mouth eating those on a winter morning. Superb!
 

I went to Anfield Comp.

We had an ace chippy and bakers a few roads away.

Me and a mate would buy a white tin loaf, break it in half, scoop out the bread, and fill it with chips.= ?

Any wonder I am on statins now.= ?
We should have an unhealthy eating thread. lol

There`s a chippy in the Dingle, that does something called Fish Toast.

Fried toast, replaces the batter, so the fish, sits, sealed in the middle of two pieces of fried bread.

It may not be the most healthy option, but it`s the most perfect thing to eat in the Winter or when you`re starving.

Kenny Ling died about 2 years ago. Think his son Mark runs the chippy now but not 100%.

Fish toasts were never the same once Kenny stopped making them.

Oh and it was 1 piece of Warbies toastie loaf, cut triangle shaped corner to corner, with the filling on top. Kenny's batter, on the fish and the toasts, was the best around.
