Chris Cornell RIP

So many great bands came from Seattle in the early 90's (Pearl Jam weren't but in soul they where)

Pearl Jam not from Seattle? Founding members of Green River and then founding members of Mother Love Bone (both local legends here) were the founding members of Pearl Jam. Yes Vedder is from out of town, but to call Pearl Jam not a Seattle band is kinda crazy.

It would be like saying Nirvana isn't a Seattle band because Dave Grohl is from DC. Foo Fighters could definitely fit your description though. Although again at the beginning that was Grohl and Sunny Day Real Estate (a local legend...the next big thing that didn't quite make it big time)

From 1988's Ultramega OK. Not my favorite Soundgarden song...but a standout for Cornell. 3 octives? NEA.

I actually love the music of the song...Thayil is so unconventional. I prefered Cornell on the lower octives...just a preference he easily lived on the upper end.

Anyway this was live in Seattle at The Showbox in 2010. They 'secretly' were performing as Nude Dragons.

I had a brain fart moment mate, Vedder being not from there always has me thinking of them as not one...

Arguably the single amount of brilliant bands and musicians springing up at one time in a n area though.

Did he have mental problems....heard that atleast drug problem...bad bad combination (if true)

RIP

Been clean from drugs since about 2003 mate, but god knows how long he'd been suffering with mental problems. It really is scary to think how normal everything can appear from the outside, even to those closest to you. None of his family or band mates saw this coming.

I'm a big music fan starting with prog rock in my early teens in the seventies, through punk, new wave, and the eighties scene. Picked it up again mid nineties through to today. Love most genres tbh.

However there is this black hole from the late 80s to mid 90s when I seemed to lose all interest in music. Also coincided with me taking a sabbatical from the blues now I think about it. I've never really thought about it before but I guess it coincided with a period when I was particularly ambitious at work.

The upshot is that the Grunge/Seattle scene completely passed me by. Of course I know of Nirvana's hits and am a big fan of the Foo fighters, but by the sounds if it I'm missing out on something special and there's a whole genre waiting to be discovered. Apart from Nirvana and Soundgarden, who else should I be on the lookout for?
