Chrismpw's letters from a festival

Did you ever go to the old Stone Henge Summer Solstice free festival mate ( showing my age )

If not you'd have loved it - the likes of Black Sabbath and Hawkwind headlining.

The only commerce was a load of hippies selling dope, mushies, scrumpy from caravans / tents.

No glamping, posh VIP whoppers and champagne, just everyone having a great time for as little money as possible.
Sadly not, sounds great though. I got into festivals just before they became commercial and uber expensive and watched the sad decline. No way would I pay ro go to one these days. Just not the same. There's a vw van here with 2 hipsters trying to flog sunglasses with some biff's name on starting at £300 ffs. Their very existence makes me want to puke. The fact that there is probably a market for such pointless trinkets, while we have people needing foodbanks makes me dispair for humanity.

Wait until they’re asleep and stick a spud up their exhaust ;)

Not really got the hang of this. To my mind there are 3 main stages plus a coffee bar stage where live music can be found.

Having finally made the decision to splash out on the cd of the band I liked earlier, I March over the considerable crowd dodging distance to the merchandise tent, stopping off to stage stare at the VIPs again, only to find a full on band playing in the one place that flogs anything of interest to me - the merch tent . It's absolutely rammed. No chance iffn getting in. Ffs.

It's started raining. Proper rain. I'm guessing the rain in the VIP area is warmed for them somehow.

Get yourself over to the tea for Tew tent and have a nice cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake

Spent all of today trying to inject life into my corpse. The only course of action is hair of the dog.

Have examined the clay table where all the kids leave their creations to dry in the sun. The mangled creations speak volumes for the clientele here. Instead of mutated dogs, cats, dolphins and burgers, which is the usual fayre, I spotted horse shoes, shittake mushrooms and sushi (with grass as a garnish).

In half an hour I have to find the life to start packing away the venues. God help me.

Beach boys and steeleye span this evening. I remember seeing steeleye in a theatre in grimdon 30 years ago. I was right at the front, and when maddy prior danced, her sweet sweat rained down on me. I was in heaven.

I don't fancy that now. She must be pushing 80.

No but I live round the corner and my daughters go to school in great tew. it’s the school who run the tea for tew tent.

I would have been there but the lineup was crap this year.

Just left the beach boys to their stuff to get to steeleye span. About 30 here already so got a good spot at the front. Sat on my shooting stick to wait and it collapsed.

Fell unceremoniously on my arse to much hilarity to the band and the gathering crowd.

Maddy Prior gave me the thumbs up though. Might be in.

Steeleye Span .... it's been 25 years I reckon. Unadulterated joy of a performance (and a rather watchable young lady on violin).

Anyone who thinks it is all about 'all around my hat' wants to listen to this
