I’m going for a long weekend next week for the first time and wondering if anyone has any tips for things to do or places to eat and drink. Going in completely blind so could do with some guidance.
Other than Spoons be prepared to pay about £5 a pint at most boozers.
Great old pubs all over the city, Sandy Bells at Forrest Road my personal favourite , few good pubs and restaurants up and around there including McSorleys(Interesting building, former Oddfellows hall ) and Doctors.

Do the whisky tour by the castle, go to the little whisky shop over the road, treat yourself to a bottle of something fancy, go the cigar shop next door and treat yourself to a nice cigar to accompany your whisky.

Find somewhere quiet and enjoy

Heading up there for 4 nights on Monday.

Will be half a stone heavier when I return.

Boss drinks and scran.

I can highly recommend, a little restaurant, called the Cellar Door, just off the King George Bridge.

Found it by accident, last time I was there and the food is off the scale good, reasonably priced and lovely staff.

It was that good, that we jibbed going anywhere else after the meal and just stayed in there, drinking with the staff, until they kicked us out.

If you’re away for the weekend then a walk up Arthur’s seat is a must. Fantastic views of the City and beyond. You can’t go wrong with the sightseeing and bars around the Royal Mile and the grass market. George st. for more upmarket bars and down Leith walk for more local bars. Buses are cheap so you can get around very easily.
Couldn't agree more. Went in 2019 while the was going on so it was pretty busy. But the castle and Arthur's Seat were great. Leith was nice as well. Stayed right on Canongate. Are at White Horse Oyster & Seafood bar a few times and also The Wedgewood which was good. But great city without being too expensive.

Visit the free museums & Art Galleries - also any nice weather visit the Zoo to see the Panda ....

Plus take a big wallet as it's more expensive than London - My daughter has lived there for a decade - also if eating out get the nod off an UBA driver for eating out places on the outer edge of Edinburgh it's far cheaper there .......parking in the town is a no no - far too expensive architecturally a lovely place - avoid the Castle sod all in it plus expensive ....

Hope that helps ..... good trams there too ....

I’ve noticed this already. £11.40 for two pints.
