I think im right in saying collina came out and reffed that game after retiring. Then retired again after it. If thats right im guessing the powers that be at uefa told him to swing that game so we never made C.L. proper and it never complicated their cash cow having 5 english teams. Either way it was a fix by the chiefs and collina was under orders. Or collina just made a bad call.
Clattenberg however is a C#!* of the highest the derby alone was the most blatant 1 sided biased refereeing of a game ive ever witnessed twattenberg laughing and joking along with spit'n'slip.l they were in his ear all game like kids in a school yard whispering secrets.carragher doing an impression of the wwf undertaker trying to put a sleeper hold on Lescott. Collina made 1 bad decision against us then retired.but clattenberg was more than just bad decisions it was blatant bias and it still makes my blood boil.

Well if you believe the narrative that Brit refs get their instructions from the PL to favour teams, the same would apply if the refs were from Mars.
Is it so hard to believe that when the point of this thread is that it has just been admitted that there are favorite teams and managers by a high profile referee?

Regardless, the point I was making is that a Tunisian rdferee to pick a random example likely didn't grow up supporting and heavily invested in Arsenal to pick another random example whereas a red from Lindon quite conceivably did.

My larger point though is that it seems the available talent pool is artificially restricted to just England for referees but not for players which is an imbalance of sorts.

Correct on Collina.

As much as it kills us, hell still be remembered as one of the best refs ever. No one will care about this and he’ll have received a big pay off from UEFA.

Clattenburg was absolutely desperate to be part of the Premier a league clan and be centre of attention. See Euro 2016, CL tattoos.

If he was a bar of chocolate he’d eat himself.

As for the comments on why the Premier League don’t just hire the best referees...

well because they already control what they want, why muddy the waters? I mean when a referee gives a penalty after he’s blown for full time... you tell me they’re not being told what to do?
