Russia is a capitalist country now, and Putin runs a right of centre, capitalist party. So not sure he is a communist now,

Robert Tressell made the same point in1914 -

"The answer is that not only are the majority of people opposed to Socialism, but a very brief conversation with an average anti-socialist is sufficient to show that he does not know what Socialism means. The same is true of all the anti-socialist writers and the 'great statesmen' who make anti-socialist speeches: unless we believe that they are all deliberate liars and impostors, who to serve their own interests labour to mislead other people, we must conclude that they do not understand Socialism. There is no other possible explanation of the extraordinary things they write and say. The thing they cry out against is not Socialism but a phantom of their own imagining."

Putin isn't interested in it. He's a strongman fabulously wealthy standing guard over a primitive gangster capitalist economy determined to secure its own territory from western nations eyeing up their mineral resources. The last thing Putin wants is order and control over people like him and those he controls the state for.

If Putin lived in the Soviet Union he'd have been put on a train to Siberia and made to break rocks for a decade then taken into the woods and shot in the back of the head.

I mean to be fair, Putin did live under the Soviet Union and was by all accounts a very good KGB operative.

That doesn't mean he is a socialist or communist now though. It made he did his job back then.

I'd have loved to have lived there in East Germany. I'd have worn my red pioneer bandana with pride as a kid in prepeatration of a life working for the greater good.

Yeah, it's great having the freedom to watch what you want too....as well as the BBC, I like to watch Russia Today too to get a balan......

I'm just amazed at how many experts we have on Soviet history, East German history, Capitalism, Socialism, Trotskyism, Stalinism, Leninism -the list goes on. The mind boggles at the expert knowledge which, as usual, is put forward with unwavering belief in its accuracy. Strangely enough this also applies when looking at opposing views on how our football club should be run. Even more peculiar is that those with the in-depth knowledge of world affairs also have the same laser-beam accuracy in solving Everton's misfortunes. Unfortunately however, for us mere mortals, they simply can't agree on how to save Everton any more than they can on saving the world from itself. We live on in hope that one day they will enlighten us and we can all be happy Evertonians sharing our mixed ideas on how to move our great club forward for the future. For now though we just have to wait for the great minds on this Forum to find a way for us all in these dark times.
