I think the squad should be.

Foster
Hart

Baines
Ferdinand
Jags
Lescott
Taylor
Cahill

Walcott
Lampard
Milner
Lennon
Bentley
Rodwell
Wilshere
Johnson

Rooney
Bent/Defoe

There are loads of exciting youngsters, like Cattermole, Muamba, Cleverly at UTD, Cork & Chelsea or Wellbeck at Utd again, or Sturridge, the english have a very good pool of english youngsters, i dunno why they don't get in the full setup, granted the youngsters i mentioned are barely broken in at their respective clubs.. but..

I don't think Rob Green should be anywhere near the England WC setup, and his selection in the first game was nothing more than settling on the player that Capello thought wouldn't botch it, and ironically he did. James wasn't chosen for that game because of his gaffe-ish nature, and Hart wasn't because he was too young. It was a short-sighted and gutless pick, imo.

I agree with Robinson, he was forced out on a mistake and it was to the detriment of the squad. He should have been starting in SA imo. Of the three, I would have gone with the boldest choice, Hart. He is the best keeper of the three.

Green, Robinson and Carson have all effectively been exiled because of a single mistake. From a psychological point of view, players are focussing so hard on not making a mistake that they're visualising negative outcomes rather than positive ones. In the Premiership they tend to use their 'muscle memory' and play with instinct rather than thinking about every action. Because of the pressures of playing for England they tend to overthink instead of performing naturally. It actually results in more errors and stilted football. Dropping a player because they've made a mistake heaps more pressure on the player who replaces them. As a footballing nation we need to stop playing the blame game. The manager needs to set the example by standing by players.

It's roughly what I would pick. I think your squad needs a bit more balance though. We probably need about four strikers. The likes of Gerrard, Terry and Glen Johnson still certainly have an international future. My issue with how the national team is managed is that it tends to be about 9 automatic selections and then the rest to make up the numbers. I think we need 23 players who the manager feels confident enough about to call upon during crucial matches.

agree big time over the darren bent thing. Wasn't he one of the like top 5 goal scorers in europe last year? and to give Heskey who doesn't even start for his club the nod over him is just ridiculous.

Heskey isn't very good but I never had a problem with him in the starting 11 because he is the only attacking player who tries to get others involved in the match. When Heskey starts he's the only one who is a team player. Lamps, Gerrard, both Coles and even Rooney now just try to make a bee line for the goal. All 3 of them would rather go 1 on 4 to get a shot on goal instead of looking for the open man. I don't think its a considence that when England plays well, Heskey has a good game. The fact that Heskey has a good game every now and then is an accomplishment in itself because of all the other selfish players on the squad its almost like he's forced to be the creatitive player. He has to play the Arteta role for England while platooned up top with his back to the goal.

Probably one reason by Bent never played well for England is because he never played with Heskey (i.e. someone who would get him quality chances on goal).

I think Baines would be great on England if he ever would get the chance. Its too bad he's a fringe player and not the "world class" Cole. All Ashley Cole does with the ball in the attacking position is cut inside in which he runs right smack into into Gerrard and Lampard both of whom are also cutting inside. Players who get wide like Baines and Lennon always seem to do well for England because they try to get others involved.

I find it Ludricas fans blamed Capello for playing Heskey which ultimately meant Fabio drop him from the 2 WC games.

I find it hard to argue that Rooney was better than Heskey in the World Cup, and the fact Rooney is in the friendly and Heskey isn't is just diabolicle. Rooney had one clear chance and he missed it, so if Heskey is blamed for not scoring...Rooney missed his chance to why didn't more people get on his back?

As you said Heskey is a team player, Rooney is but at the World Cup he wasn't...he gave the ball away and was to busy ****ging of England fans than trying to improve his game. I don't think he will ever mature enough to lead England upfront and Capello should drop him at least for a game like this after how bad he performed.
