Don't try to re watch the ones of your youth. ... I adored rik Mayal and Ade Edmundson in Bottom in the mid 90s. Re watched some last year, dreadfulDave Allen was brilliant. That one about teaching his kid how to tell the time cracks me up- brilliant delivery. Loved Tommy Cooper too and of course L&H especially when Ollie breaks the fourth wall and looks into the camera “you see the sort of thing I have to deal with here”
Modern day comedy- I don’t know many. There’s a fella pops up on my Instagram called Josh Pugh and I quite like his stuff.
Dislike- Chubby Brown. Younger me probably would have loved it but not for me now.
Kick ass!Gigged with quite a few comedians on the cabaret circuit in previous decades.
Top of the lot was Norman Collier, with Ken Dodd a close second (wouldn't get off the stage - he was on until 1:30 in the morning - MC and Concert Sec were going ballistic; we just wanted to get our gear off stage and head home!).
Meh - most modern comedians, just not funny. If you're gonna tell stories, then look up the likes of Tom O'Connor (who was brilliant live!), Bob Monkhouse and Dave Allen - all masters of their craft.

When I read that the tears were streaming down my face. It's a comic classic.
Speaking of comic classic books....
...Ignatius J. Reilly, one of the greatest characters in comic fiction writing.

Honestly never seen theo von tell a single jokeDon't find any American comedians funny apart from Theo Von, and even then I don't find him funny when he's doing actual stand up
Brilliant book and genuinely engrossing aswell as funny.Didn't read all his war memoirs but when I was very young and read anything that was around the house I absolutely loved Hitler: My Part in His Downfall and Mussolini: His Part in My Downfall. An absolute legend of comedy
I still revisit Rickles on YouTube, one of the best chat show guestsRate: Carlin, Pryor, Williams, Hicks, Rickles, Rock, Lewis Black, Dave Attell, Hedberg. Saw the last open for the prior two from the front row, one time. Crazy bill.
Hate: Carrot Top
Absolutely. The late Carson era had some killer regular guests, and he had everybody up-and-coming in comedy on for some short sets.I still revisit Rickles on YouTube, one of the best chat show guests
Interesting theory. How does it apply to Bishop though?Like tom Davis and Barkley, people don't like a Scouser being successful
Saw a Scouse comedian named Frankie Allen a while back … most unfunny bloke I’ve ever seen … he was truly awful
That’s him… was more interested in arguing with the crowdThe baldy ex gangster in the suit with the turkey teeth? Shocking comedian
