Commercial Airliners

That clip reminded me of this Transasia crash. The planes wing actually sliced through the roof of the taxi. I think the taxi driver survived, however many on the plane didn't.

Btw any thoughts on the Boeing Max crashes. My initial impression is Boeing have failed to do proper testing and training but you know far more about the subject.

I actually haven't paid too much attention to this yet. After reading briefly, it looks like bad autopilot systems, and it may be making corrections when these are unwanted. Apparently Dallas Morning News picked up on pilots complaining that it didn't run right and there have been NASA reports (anonymous pilot reporting system) on these issues as well. I don't know if it's Southwest or American (or both) that's flying these, but apparently pilots aren't happy. If that's the case, the fleet should stay grounded until Boeing figures out the problem and makes the appropriate changes.

Another interesting article

Absolutely crazy confluct of interest to outsource the safety evaluation of the plane to engineers from the manufacturing company that pays their wages and can promote/ fire them.

Ok, so I'm a huge airliner nut. Love looking at pictures of airliners, watching Youtube videos of take offs and landings. Fascinated with air traffic control. When I was younger, I'd go down to the airport and take pictures of various planes.

Now, I'll sit there with Flightradar24 up on my computer and then tune into the airport tower of choice and sit there and listen to the planes landing and taking off while watching online.

I had a business trip last year where I could have had a straight flight from Houston to Seattle but I found out that if I took the Houston to Denver to Seattle flight, I could fly on the new 787 so I paid the extra $150 out of my own pocket just to do it.

Some of my favorite websites:

Anyone else got this sickness or is it just me?
Flying scares me to death. Have to do it about once a month because of work. Boeing stuff has not helped. Jack Daniels does.

Yes, that seems like a really bad decision, and completely negligent by FAA to do their own job in oversight

A interesting article on the Boeing design

I don't get the article--the two Max crashes seem to be a result of bad data/software causing the autopilot to make in appropriate corrections. As a whole, the 737 seems to have a good safety record, and it certainly doesn't appear to be increasing with changes in later models. (Although the Max probably should have its own category in this list). I agree that Boeing should start with a new clean slate design (like the 787), but sometimes you should continue a model that works, and the 737 seems to work pretty well.

This page actually has some interesting things to say about fear of flying.

My only recommendation is to own your fears, as much as you can. And if you're the one flying, then no Jack until you safely reach cruise altitude and quit at least 15 minutes prior to descent.
