Boeing overall seem to have got very complacent with their safety procedures and communications.

This is bad. Not that I’ve looked at Boeing’s financial statements, but this is the sort of thing to cause bankruptcy. Obviously no clue how this will turn out, but surely at least a few layoffs are in the future if this isn’t fixed soon and orders resume.

there are planes in the air that have paint where there should be metal, it was common practice at the place where i worked to stand the wing parts up to let the paint/metal treatment 'run' to make it measure thicker, we're talking microns because thats how tight the tolerances were but if it was slightly under size they'd do that to get it through.

Think Boeing is too big to fail. Employs far too many people and I imagine some very powerful big wigs in America have a lot of money invested.

Expect some senior management fella nobody has heard of to get the boot, then it will be busy as usual.

Sorry mate (I'm as thick as pig plop) but what does that mean where you say there is paint where there should be metal and how does that affect the plane.

Probably sounds stupid on my part mate, just interested to understand how thickness of paint matters or how it's put on/dried etc

As I hate flying but have to, I did not need to know that:(

I did a lot of flying with my job. All over Europe and the States but wasn't a good flyer. Needed a stiff drink, yet when I was 18 in NS I flew out to Singapore on a Hermes 4 engine (propellers). It was notorious for engine trouble. It was my first flight and we got over France only to return to Blackbush with engine trouble. We were delayed at every stop while they sorted the engine out and it finally conked out just after we started the leg from Calcutta to Bangkok. We landed on three engines. None of this bothered me at all, I found it all very interesting and exciting. What changed?
You understood mortality like we do not when young. (armchair therapist here)

mind you my younger Brother is in charge of supply chain quality for aircraft parts. I still fly knowing that idiot could have something to do with the heap my life depends on. Who would look after my dogs?

Initial reports say there has been one fatality and by looking at that video, it could have been a lot worse!

Over 40 dead now...

The pilots did well to save any lives looking at that video of it landing in flames
