Commercial Airliners

That place has some great takeoff/landing videos.

However, my fave landing has to be this one:

Edit - changed to a video that allows embedding.

That's a hairy approach. Aspen is probably the toughest in the US--not for any circling approach but because of performance issues. If you get it wrong, you're likely to end up an ore deposit. You can hear George chirping here in good weather.

And with no visibility.

A fun shot

St Maarten Steklenberg approach, for @carlos21

I was looking at something that caught my interest the other day, and its a fully achievable concept. Transpose by Airbus, basically treating theeir commercial passenger liners as a modular system similar to cargo planes. You lose windows, though I'm sure they could do something with screens and live video streaming for the people who wish, or you could have some screens that are showing the plane at about 100m above the ground for this scared of heights...... dunno just an idea.

Anyhoo, more here...

I'm no engineer, but seems reasonable. No need for windows when you can use cameras/lcd displays for similar, and customizable and better, effect.

I appreciate the technology and design of big airliners, but I am still scared of flying, particularly on long-haul flights, once the thick cushion of alcohol between me and reality dissipates.

However, I always keep this quote in mind when on a flight: Trying to get rich by playing mega-lottery is like trying to die by flying commercially.

I'm certainly not an airliner buff, but this Soviet AN-225 is such a cool design.

I think it was Benny Hill who said:

"The odds of you being on a plane with a bomb on board is one million to one. The odds of being on a plane with two bombs on board is one Billion to one so improve your odds and bring a bomb."

Not sat in the Dreamliner yet. Did you like it? Amazing technology, but I like the sort that's more analog (to a point) with more sticks and buttons, and have an inappropriate affection for the SAAB 2000.

Dreamliner was great and much more quiet than your average jetliner. I highly recommend one.

*DID YOU KNOW.....

That when the Spitfire was first introduced, the engine had a fatal flaw. When performing negative G maneuvers, the engine would cut out (you can actually see this happen in the Battle of Britain movies opening sequence (you can hear the engine cut out, then see black smoke belch from the plane, indicating the chamber has excess fuel). It was eventually fixed, making it the match of it's German counterpart.

NERD ALERT*****NERD ALERT******

An excellent video covering this flaw and how it was initially fixed is here:

I did know that and the fix was referred to as miss shillings orifice, Fnarr Fnarr. Also the Mk IX is my favourite variant.
