CAT fascinates me....in fact the whole topic of aviation remains an absolute marvel.

I think it's just shear between two fluid layers, but I don't know enough about fluid dynamics and that sort of thing, so to me it's just CAT, distinct from other types of wind shear due to the conditions in which it arises

The beluga that flies out of Airbus in Chester is similar. The thing climbs so slow it looks like it's just about to crash down to earth.

On a side note, I just discovered that the U.K. doesn't allow public broadcast of their aircraft frequencies. I tried to look up the tower for Heathrow but couldn't find one. A bit more research and I found that there's a law that's been in effect since 1942 that doesn't allow it.

Maybe they'll change the law sometime soon.

I've gone far off topic with non-airliner jets, but not all curves are equal. I like my jets with long legs, and the Gulfstream is the longest of them all. But sometimes you meet a new headturner, and want to know what makes her tick.
