Computer games.

Two things

1. I cannot fathom why anybody would consider buying the Digital Only version of the PS5. I don't even know how it's legal to be honest. You are completely at the whim of Playstation and their online pricing policy for games (Which has been pathetic for years TBH)

2. Why do we always get bummed for price? The proper PS5 is $499 ( which is about £385) - but we have to pay £449? Why not £400?

1. Agree. I know some people prefer digital -- I get the convenience aspect totally -- but I can't comprehend how you can stomach paying more to not actually own anything. I routinely buy and sell my games on which helps me fund the hobby but even if you never sell a game, you are paying more for a license to use a download rather than having a physical copy you own.

2. VAT.

Agree on point 1. For me personally would always rather have the disk tray. Swap or sell games, buy cheaper games, don't have to downloads huge files when you decide you want to play a game you haven't for a while. Definitely worth the extra initial outlay.

On point 2, there are a few reasons:

- Part of it is due to sales tax in the US. For us VAT is already included in the price. In the US it never is so the price is higher than the stated price. We are still getting ripped off but an equivalent price would be something like £410-420 depending on level of sales tax as it varies by state (can be up to nearly 10%).

- It is more expensive to supply lots of smaller countries in the EU with consoles than supplying one massive country like the US.

- Even with the above factors combined it likely doesn't make up the difference in prices fully so there is a degree of the people just being willing to take it.

Probably some other factors too but these seem to be the ones that get brought up most often.

I'm not especially beholden to a particular company, so I'm leaning towards the Xbox right now

That being said, it'll be at least a year into the generation before I even consider buying one, which will be the first time I've done that since the Sixth Gen when I waited a year or so before going for the PS2 because I liked the look of it more

Just not really arsed about modern gaming to be honest. The only games I even get excited for anymore is when they remake one I used to like such as Crash or Tony Hawk

Went PS4 last gen, but I've no problem swapping over to Mircrosoft if their console looks to be better

That xbox all access scheme is seriously good. If you already pay for game pass ultimate at £10.99 for just an extra £18 a month you get the series x with no upfront cost. If I was to get any thats what I'd go for and just pick up a ps5 in about a year or 2.

I get what you guys are saying, and for the most part it does make sense... but I looked at my Xbox games collection before trading in for credit the other day - in 7yrs of owning an Xbox One/One X, I ended up owning precisely games on physical media, only 1 of which wasn't bought at or near release, for full price, none of which I ended up trading in/selling (until this weekend, when they were worth a total of £30) and the most recent of which was released 3.5yrs ago. That coupled with 1) the fact that by trading in my xbox I could cover 100% of the cost of the Digital Only PS5; and 2) I'm currently trying to pay for a wedding; pushed me to the Digi Only option. I can't see that I'll notice the lack of a drive at all tbh.

Erm, whys my post here!

Weddings are cheap when you plan 1 in the middle of a pandemic.

But the stress, my God the stress.

That's a huge subscription though to Xbox.

How long is it for?

Ours is in 8 days, we don't know if it will even go ahead, we don't know if the reception will go ahead and we don't know if we can or want to go on our honeymoon.

Honestly I will probably die from stress before next Friday.
Ugh. That's horrific mate. It's on the day after my birthday, so I'll have a drink for you, and keep my fingers crossed.

Ours isn't until May, so we're hoping things have settled down a bit by then... though we've also got the option (at the moment at least) of shunting it to September. Would rather not, but it may be the sensible thing to do.

My missus originally picked 11th September, but I said we couldn't get married on 9/11, of course if we picked that date everything would have been fine, she is NOT letting me forget that.
