Computer games.

I always feel when an RPG developer prioritizes graphics and detail on an expansive open world game it’s a recipe for disaster (unless it was created solely for PC).

It just takes up too much of the GPU when it could be utilized elsewhere.

Not just RPGs really. Death Stranding for example - so much gone on a photo realistic can of Monster Energy that they left no time or emphasis on any sort of gameplay.

Weird thing with Cyberpunk is that it doesn't even look that good to me.

Anyone playing Cyberpunk on PC might find this useful to help with performance optimisation

What's your top 5 video games and top 5 most disappointing games?

For me, top 5:

Swos 96/97
Red dead redemption (the first one)
Super Mario 3
Grow up
Shenmue 2

Biggest disappointments:

Cyberpunk 2077
Final fantasy 8
GTA 4
Headhunter (on Dreamcast)
Every FIFA (excluding wc98)

Best
FF7 - just the best
FF10 - linear but I love the story, characters and Blitzball and when it opens up later it has some really good challenges
FF12 - grew on me over time and has become one of the games I've replayed the most
FF14 - thousands of hours on this MMO. I don't get hooked on the grind like some people do but its given me so many amazing moments playing with people
X3 Terran Conflict (+ Albion Prelude expansion) - the first sandbox game I really got into, the progression going from a little fighter to a megacorp with huge destroyers and carriers is still amazing.

Worth mentioning: Terraria, Slay the Spire and Divinity Original Sin 2.

Disappointments
PUBG - It went from a tense survival shooter to a run around like a headless chicken esports-wannabe game. Topped off with dogturd performance.
FF15 - think there was genuinely a good game in there at one point but it turned out a total mess in terms of story telling with gameplay that got stale very quickly
FF9 - just really never liked the setting or design. Too goofy for my liking.
Pillars of Eternity - too mathmatical to ever feel enjoyable
Path of Exile - I have some friends who are crazy about this game and I've given it a good try but I can't come to any other conclusion than its horrendous and lacking basic things like camera control. Completely mechanics driven gameplay that uses the same controls so you're just doing the same things again and again and again.

Top games:
Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction
Destiny 1/2
The Witcher trilogy
Red Alert
Gears of War 1 - my most played fps pvp mode ever

Disappointments:
Diablo 3 - and every other game Blizzard has made after Warcraft 3 - not including Starcraft 2 as I never played it
H1Z1
Gears of War 2
Every manager game after Championship Manager 97/98
Red Dead Redemption - to this day the clunkiest controls I ever experienced in a game - turned it off after 10 minutes and never played it again

Too true. You can still make a game beautiful without going overboard on the detail and such. I think of something like Outer Worlds with its gorgeous color palette for example.

Have you ever given the Final Fantasy series a go? Could be your sort of thing

Interesting the disappointment for RDR2 in here, probably goes into my top 5 games in all honesty! I was drawn in early doors and absolutely hooked by the story. Some of the mechanics and movement was a bit rigid but got used to it and love the game all in.

I was firmly in the disappointed camp when I got in on release, gave up a few hours in as couldn’t get into it.

however I restarted it during lockdown recently and hammered it, absolutely loved it in the end.

Regarding Cyberpunk 2077 I preordered for PS4 and it just arrived today. Experiencing a dilemma on whether to open it up and endure any bugs or technical issues I encounter until they resolve the issue or return it for a different game. Has anyone played it for ps4? could use some advice.

Not got it myself, but I am sure I heard somewhere that some bugs get carried into the save/profile? I.e if there is a fix later on you'd also have to restart the game?

No idea if true, or if that only applied to PC for example, but felt it was worth mentioning.

Edit: that said, for people to know this, it must relate to something that has already been patched.

Geez this game has more bugs than starship troopers so it wouldn't surprise if that was a possibility. Thanks for the heads up regardless

Just built me a new gaming rig. Can't use it til Xmas! One of the lucky ones who managed to get an rtx 3070! Using with ryzen 7 3700x, 32gb corsair vengeance 3600 cl16 ram, b550 carbon WiFi mobo and more adressable rgb than you can shake a stick at! So excited lol

Top 5:

iRacing
Escape from Tarkov
Half Life 2
Assetto Corsa
Rainbow Six Rogue Spear

Notable Disappointments:

Every Rainbow Six game since Rogue Spear
Every Ghost Recon game since Ghost Recon 2
Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising

cant really think of any others, I generally have low expectations for most video games
