Computer games.

Just finished up horizon zero dawn, good game really enjoyed it although quite repetitive at times.
Got a good deal on the mafia remake on Black Friday so giving that a blast later.
My 6 year old step daughter has just been telling me she plays Horizon Zero Dawn with her Dad. As someone who's played it, how suitable is it for a 6 year old?

The stock 'shortages' of the new consoles are getting silly now.

I get that it's been a mad year with COVID and all, but even still I would've expected mega rich corporations like Microsoft and Sony to be churning these things out like hot cakes given the demand but apparently not. I'm also really disappointed in the retailers who got properly done up by scalpers and just shrugged as they got their sales anyway.

At this point, I'm guessing it's going to be well into the new year before I even catch sight of a Series X like..
Do you seriously expect stores, often working on fine margins, to do detailed background checks on customers and assess their future intentions for the product they're buying. That's insane.

And ramping up production to extreme levels brings problems - they don't solely manufacture every component and increasing demand for materials would have a knock on the cost and therefore the end price - on a product already sold as a loss leader. Then there's the sheer logistics of moving all that around and finding a sufficient workforce to do that work. If you think Sony and Microsoft aren't satisfying demand through not being arsed or organised enough then you are well wide of the mark.

The only people to be disappointed in are those who think they were entitled to get one without pre-ordering despite pretty much every console launch or popular product ever being like this. More-so with a near Xmas launch.

You do kill things in it, mainly robots it has to be said, a few human kills but as Tommy said it’s not gory/bloody/ brutal.

Story wise it will be over her head I imagine but in terms of running around beautiful scenery, snowy mountains etc and climbing things I’m sure she will enjoy it.

Absolutely fine, honestly. You only kill robots and it's not like there's blood splatter and stuff.

It's honestly a beautiful game.
Thanks. I don't play any computer games so I just wanted to check it wasn't going to turn her in to a future serial killer.

They can't churn them out like hotcakes. They both use AMD APUs which are made by TSMC. TSMC are currently under the hammer from these consoles APU's, AMD's desktop processor, server processor, laptop APU/CPU, server gpu's and desktop GPU's.

Not to mention Apple with iphone/ipad and the new apple designed ARM chip in their mac's...... These manufacturing times are bought well ahead of time, then throw covid in there........

Standing up a new 7nm fab doesn't make financial sense when they will be transitioning off the 7nm onto 5nm and smaller in the near future.

PC. I sometimes get twenty minutes of playtime before CTD!!!!!
Seriously though, i have a modest graphics card and the game still looks spectacular on medium settings, and I get consistent framerates in the low-50s (and the ever important 'consistent frametimes')

Yes, there are far more CTD's than I would like, but it isn't too bad.

AZ's gonna' be a chip-fest once their new proposed fab goes up here...world's top two producers will now be in the municipal area. Bet it doesn't drop prices for us, locally!
Initially its a 5nm fab, which right now only helps Apple and in the near future AMD on their Ryzen 6000 and beyond. Nothing to help out with the current woes.

Also, it all depends on the yields from the wafers....that is really what sets the prices. Low yield, high price. Will be interesting to see how successful they are IRT the 5nm process.

And won't it be the top 3 producers? TSMC, Intel and Micron. Or does Samsung slot into that, disrupting it?

Edit* Found the list:

Intel
TSMC
Qualcomm
Broadcom
Micron

So 3 out of the top 5 players in the industry in AZ. Not bad TBH.
