Computer games.

Just about to hit a milestone on DayZ. I've done probably that and more on PS4, too.

I’ve bought my son a PC at Xmas and I’ve downloaded dayZ and I’ve been playing it quite a bit since when I can. I tried it years ago on PS4 but wasn’t impressed back then. I’m now finding it more enjoyable after about 20 hours in of game play. I found the official servers to be brutal and kicked me off loads for low latency etc etc. however I’ve just downloaded 3 mods and have found much more enjoyment. One of them I started with a water canteen, food etc, knife and biker type clothes. It makes a big difference and I’m also finding stuff a lot more than the official servers. Also met someone who didn’t instantly kill me the other day, he actually wished me a good day and moved on.

Anyway if you have any tips etc let me know 👍😊

Yeah, it runs terribly on PS4. Looking back on old videos I have saved and can't believe I used to play something so janky.

Official servers are just a slow deathmatch and are more prone to cheaters. Community servers range from being similar to official, to heavily modded servers which make it feel like a different game. Have you got DZSA Launcher? If not then download it. You can search for servers by map, and it lists the mods which each server uses, amongst other helpful info. The servers set the mod list, so you don't need to go randomly downloading mods.

I would stick to vanilla style servers with minimal mods and using the Chernarus map. Eventually you may find them a bit too easy to survive, especially if you're not too interested in PvP. In that case then I recommend trying Namalsk servers. It's permanently cold and it requires a different play style.

MudRunner is on sale on Steam for £3.59. I can't recommend it highly enough at that price.

Better than SnowRunner, in my opinion, which over simplifies the physics and goes over the top with random tasks and events.

Only 1.35gb, which is nice in an era of bloated games.

So, 'portal' and 'portal 2' then. Did enjoy them, the first that bit more. Obvious nods to Gordon Freeman.
You mean Black Mesa realistically, more than Gordon himself.

The lore between the two is genuinely an iceberg and the more you play and the more you focus on the small things - the more you'll find.

* You need to have either played or at least watched Half-Life and the spinoffs.

Without knowing the whole legalities of the situation, sort of. It’s an ongoing legal battle.

Initially I wanted Spintires, but it’s been removed from sale because of this.
Back when it first came out I was gonna pirate it and noticed it was a ridiculously small .iso/installer, like 500mb or so unpacked, as it wasn't full release yet. To my surprise it wasn't a virus lol Not shocking they've somehow kept the relatively small game sizes I suppose.

SnowRunner is much, much bigger, but it’s bloated with gimmicky stuff and overcomplicates it.

MudRunner is based in Siberia with Soviet era trucks, whereas SnowRunner is the US. I’ve always had a soft spot for old Russian designed trucks and guns. They’re handsome things.

I believe in Spintires I was able to drive a KAMAZ/ZIL and a Lada Niva and a few other soviet shitbag cars in the mud/forests.

Art imitates life, as they say.

Have you ever driven one in real life? The actual worst car but it will absolutely take you anywhere (at some point, not quickly).
No, but I’d love a go. They look a bit like the Suzuki Jimny, which are supposed to be great fun off road.

I bought MudRunner anyway so I’ll be playing around with that today. I had it on PS4 Pro, which when set to 60fps mode it sounded like an Airbus A380. Should be a bit of an upgrade on the nerd station.
