Computer games.

Spent the last hour or so wetting myself watching some of these DayZ vids, going to look for the Arma II game in a store on the weekend and get playing:

Same here mate, it looks sick!

Unfortunately my laptop wont be able to hack it.

Just watched one of a nutter and a couple of his mates going psycho at a standoff and butchering everyone whilst laughing like The Joker, and another where someone is sitting in a tent playing "Yeyeyeyeaaaaaa" music so people come and look in and he pops them off, popcorn central. Can't wait.

Links for these? If you please my friend.

Been playing a bit of Day z and it's bloody confusing to get used to. The controls are pretty poor as is the interface.

On your own it's mostly very tough and often boring.

But with mates it is definitely one of the most unique and mental gaming experiences you can have.

The game engine is meant to be so buggy, is that true?

I've not had too many problems but I've only played it for maybe 3-4 hours.

The Arma devs just released a patch yesterday to address a lot of problems, due to the massive influx of new players (all playing Day Z).

Heat this game looks ****ing ace, I'm well into getting this I think.

I've read that this mod has bumped up sales of ARMA 2 by 500% or something. It's sold out in a lot of places, even at £30.

I'm definitely going to get this. But my laptop is a bit goosed these days so I might back it up and claim on my laptop insurance.

Get it on Steam. Think it's about £20. You need Combined Operations or ARMA 2 & Operation Arrowhead (the add on).

There are currently over 800k unique players.

It's just ridiculously intense. Ridiculous.

It's a bit too obtuse though, I think. I understand the realism but when you don't have a weapon and you're spotted by zombies that run as quickly as you at full health you're doomed to sprint forever until you find either a room you can lock yourself in, or you die.

With some gear though and with mates, it's outstanding.

Yeah the controls take a bit of getting used to. The learning curve is pretty damn steep.

I got pretty endgame recently and have been up around the NW airfield a lot - then I realised that it's probably just as much fun hanging around the two coastal cities and freaking people out.

This has just been announced too - been in development for a while apparently, but strikes more than a passing resemblance. Even the name FFS.

It really could set off a chain reaction of emergent gameplay titles. It's really quite fascinating.

I'm sure, knowing the industry, the market will quickly be oversaturated but I'd love to play a game like this in a Fallout style post-apocalypse setting, for example.

That's the crazily high learning curve though. Losing aggroed zombies is actually pretty simple when you work it out - zig zag between buildings and break their LOS, once out of their FOV just drop prone or crouch walk away. Or run straight for the trees, weaving between the large firs, then change to a crouch - the fir trees seem to confuse them and they just wander away.

It also takes a while to get used to which buildings are enterable and where weapons will spawn. A few hours of experience and you'll be able to gear up in no time.

Haven't really tried that. Like I said I've only played a few hours.

Might have another go tonight. I keep playing it alone in my room at night with all the lights off and headphones on. It's a good cure for constipation.
