Why don't they build another?

Watched a YT mini-doc about it a couple yrs ago. Iirc it's largely down to cost/(lack of) demand/wouldn't pass noice polution tests nowadays (without inducing even more costs).

I watched a documentary about the engineering a couple of years ago & they said in it was not only state of the art in the '60's, it is state of the art today.

Even more incredible mate when you think about computer technology back in the 60's. Still amazes me now how they managed it.

I was at The Royal Aircraft Establishment from 1973-77 working in the 8ft transonic wind tunnel, we got our own flypast in 76 iirc.

greatest aircraft ever is probably the SR71, also built in the 60s (!!), unless you want to count the Space Shuttle (which was great except for the explosions rapid unscheduled disassemblies) but the Concorde is definitely one of the top designs. The Supermarine Spitfire also up there in the rank of greatest designs.

So many creations in that era that are so hard to comprehend. One of my faves was the English Electric Lighning.

edit. Filton is an airstrip in Bristol, near where she was built. Think her maiden flight was from there.

A Rolls-Royce Olympus Turbojet engine 593-610, fitted with afterburner. This was the only engine BA sold which had the afterburner fitted and the engine serial number plate attached. This engine was fitted on wing no.3 position on Concorde reg.: G-BFKW number 214.
