The City game was literally four days ago…stop with these sweeping critiques of him and Tarkowski. Absolutely ridiculous. They were bad tonight, but they’ve both been good this season, and just what we needed.
Objectively though, how have they been just what we needed? We’ve played 19 games against PL teams and won 3 (THREE) times. What exactly are they providing us with that’s so important?
Everyone was quick to talk up their leadership and attitude but we’re on a 7 game run without a win, we’ve won 1 in 11, kept 4 clean sheets all season, have conceded 16 in our last 6 games. Im not saying they’re individually awful but they’re yet another example of the emperors new clothes. Everyone raves about what a difference they’ve made, despite the fact nothing has actually changed.

I hear you but I'm not even raving about them, I'm saying that they've individually been good central defenders. They immediately looked comfortable on the team and their teammates have spoken about the influence they've had behind the scenes and on the pitch. Some of that I've seen in examples (eg Tarkowski has stood up for his teammates in a way that others here have not for years, Coady actually opens his mouth which is a nice change from some of our other defenders) but overall the impact has been small. I won't dispute that. Personally I think they've been a step up from what Keane, Holgate and Godfrey have given us the last two seasons. I'm tired of the misplaced moaning where people say they've been awful all season. It's so tiring. The tactics have been so naive in some of these games that it's really hard to blame those two, for me.

Apart from the horror of last night Everton had the best defensive record in the bottom half of the table. Even better than a few above it.

I mean its a no brainer isn't it?
Him and tark together want to be waaaaay too deep, hence the huge space in front of them
But how many of those sides could say ‘apart from X’? Last night happened, we can’t discount it because it was last night. The defensive issues have been clear to anyone paying attention all season, some people have just got so obsessed with the other end of the pitch that they haven’t been paying attention.
Again, this isn’t slating either of them, but you can’t sign 2 experienced players who help you win one game in every six and say they were exactly what you needed surely.

Well the point im making is i actually think we'd be rock bottom of the table without them.
I think they've been pretty solid to be fair.
I dont feel i could have done another season of keane and holgate.
Must be a nightmare aswell knowing the midfield and attack(ha thats a laugh) are never going to bail you out on the times it goes wrong their end.

I think Coady and Tarkowski are probably the best of a bad bunch. How good that makes them is anyones business.
Coady thinks like a midfielder. That's one thing I'll say. It's a positive in how he reads the game, but a negative, in that you look at a couple of goals last night, and a natural centre half throws themselves at the ball. It's almost like he treats the shot like its 30 yards out, not 12/15 yards out.
Remember the 'Dad' things from a few weeks back? Uber cringe looking back.
