Conscientious objectors

Of the group who were obsolutionist, some were executed but mostly did hard labour ina prison camp where there treatment was pretty rough resulting in many dying. But you have to understand that as tens of thousands were dying on the battlefront, families and relatives of those were far from being tolerant.

I know a hell of a lot of conscientious objectors died "accidently" in prison caps etc, but do you know if any of the sentenced to death sentences were actually carried out?

Later on in the war, conscientious objectors in the UK were given death penalties - anyone know if any were carried out? I am sure plenty were in the likes of Germany/Russia etc

Cant be sure right now on death penalties back in blighty, but officers were armed with a pistol, specifically for use against the troops he commanded. The army didn't want soldiers refusing to go 'over the top' or trying to run away from the moment of sudden death (my looking at it).

Tiananmen square ?

Put it another way. If you had been on a certain street in England and seen Mr Love being kicked to death, would you say to yourself I am a conscientuous objector and not go to his aid?

Leon you miss a point here. Largely speaking the democratic cultures are of such a tolerant nature that there objectors who stood up and were counted. The other societies you mention Germany, Japan and Russia were ruled by dictators or a military class in which there was absolutley no way of raising an objection. As for example in current times North Korea. Remeber also that Square in Beijing?

So really I would say stop trying to be clever and face the facts of history.

By the way how do you know there were objectors in Germany, Japan and Russia?

well the objectors to the nazi movement in Germany were mostly sorted out before the war started when Hitler became chancellor.

In joining forces with Stalin, we condemned more jews, gays, gypsies and state dissidents to death than occurred under Hitler.

We allied ourselves with the bigger murderer. a tough decision to make.

Still europe was safe and the war was over - for us.

Meanwhile back in siberia.

Was actually a genuine thank you, and I did know the name of the square just typing it out would have taken forever and then there was the spelling.
