Conspiracy theories

Twitter is a real issue and so is facebook, not enough is done to bring them into line, they censor what they see fit.
They are both private companies and if you don’t follow their terms of service, they are well within their rights to kick you out.

If you stormed into your local pub and started shouting mad conspiracies about the landlord to the clientele, he’d be well within his rights to turf you out.

It isn’t a freedom of speech issue when it comes to private companies.

The issue is what 'they' deem to be 'conspiratorial', so it is in effect censorship, especially as what is censored is decided on a whim and often with no context attached.
A bigger problem is these 'private companies' run platforms that main political battles are now run on by all registered parties, so disinformation, as demonstrated by Cambridge Analytica, is king and that is allowed without recourse.

So how do you stop disinformation without censorship?

People actually thinking for themselves... it's a pipe dream I know..
That's part of the issue though, too many people don't think for themselves and will believe all the tripe about Covid being a hoax etc. So how do we ensure those people are not forming their opinions based on absolute crud conspiracy theories. Over 70 million people voted for Trump, and a lot of them seem to believe his story that the election was rigged, which just goes to show how easily idiots can be manipulated into believing anything. For that reason, I have no issue with social media restricting those voices
