That's part of the issue though, too many people don't think for themselves and will believe all the tripe about Covid being a hoax etc. So how do we ensure those people are not forming their opinions based on absolute crud conspiracy theories. Over 70 million people voted for Trump, and a lot of them seem to believe his story that the election was rigged, which just goes to show how easily idiots can be manipulated into believing anything. For that reason, I have no issue with social media restricting those voices

And then the step after that, when you want your voice to be heard? We need freedom of speech so everybody can be heard because we don't know when it's my voice or your voice, with legitimate protest, that gets shut down.
It is then up to society to highlight the bad voices, the bigotry, the hate, RAWK etc
The bigger picture is, people have new gods, as with the god thread, enough people are basically lazy and happy for others to control their responsibilities for a system to be controlled, adapted and changed at whim by small amounts of other people. Politicians are like priests, they sell you the idea of an intangible based on an 'intent', at a cost.
My opinion is the human race needs some catastrophic event, uncontrollable, not like Covid where politicians can manipulate situations a la disaster capitalism, but a physical threat to its existence, because that's the only time humans work in mutual self interest, immediate threat to life.
I genuinely believe the best case scenario is another 50 years before it collapses completely, totally and it has to restart.
Maybe then?

Yep. Having watched what has happened with Jeremy Corbyn, it's become clear to me, that simply putting out a candidate who could bring the change needed, isn't enough.

I was no Corbynite, but he had the right ideas, and was heading in the right direction. Even now, when people criticise him, it's the media narrative they are spouting.

Most people seem to think that fighting climate change is trying to save the earth, it's not. It's the fight to maintain our current way of life. But it's already been lost.

I've come to the conclusion that the electorate don't want to be told the truth, they just want to cuddled, and told everything will be ok. Isn't that what populism is?

The human brain is wired to find patterns in everything, and that's the basis of most conspiracy theories. Problem is, it's almost impossible to prove that 2+2=4.

In my opinion, what we're witnessing is the end game of capitalism, in it's current form.

There is a lot of sense in what you say, but I just don't think people spreading harmful lies and ideas such as saying covid is a hoax, or kill all infidels should be protected by rights to free speech and I have no issue with social media muzzling those voices.

So, if you don't get to hear these 'theories' how do you get to hear the things you don't know? Who decides what it is you get to hear?
All through human history people have 'spread harmless' lies, Copernicus, Galileo, da Vinci, whose opinions, challenged by the ruling orthodoxy, became accepted eventually.
There are others, considered 'occult', like Giordano Bruno, who remains villified.
Ironically the teachings (alleged) of Christ were 'harmful lies' to the powerful.
So freedom of expression, opinion etc has been hard fought for and shouldn't ge given up readily. The fact that these ideas are considered dangerous is one of two things, that either the concept of challenging is in itself an actual threat or the alternative voices are revealing some hidden 'truth'.
In these days we need a very open mind to cope with the barrage of (dis) information we recieve and go being non decided and living in real time is the only option, either side of the fence lies a potentially huge rabbit hole.

No, I am just giving my opinion on where the I feel the line should be drawn. Which is that I don't think people should be allowed to publish false rhetoric which is going to lead to thousands of deaths. And Social media companies are well within their rights to stop people using their platforms for that purpose. It's really not as deep as you are making it out to be
