[WA Toffee]

Going back to the 80's, Perth produced some great bands - the Hoodoo Gurus (Dave Faulkner at least), the Triffids, the Stems, the Scientists......

Farris brothers from INXS too. And Bon Scott (if you ignore he is originally Scottish).

I've been to Western Australia a few times to visit family who emigrated over there, and I've always loved it.

….never had the inclination to go. My mate Higgy lives there, a fanatic Toffee. He emigrated before we won the Cup in ‘84 and missed the great ‘85 season. He came home for the ‘86 Cup final and title run-in, which didn’t work out too well so he went back & we won the title again

Prestwich's family lived in a suburb called Elizabeth - named after her majesty. The lead singer of Cold Chisel (Jim Barnes) from Glasgow, also lived in the same area. It was chok-a-block with immigrants from the UK. Very working working class & rough.

I lived in Adelaide for a while. I had a girlfriend who told me she went to a house one day related to work. In the lounge room hanging on the wall were all these framed gold records. It was Prestwich's parents place. Still living in a tiny council house. He didn't care about the fanfare & gave the records to his parents.

One of the most iconic Aussie songs was written by a Scouser, Steve Prestwich. This song is like a national anthem.



Prestwich appears in the clip at 0:34 & puts the hat on his head.

One of my favourite Chisel songs (along with Bow River). I usually finish my gigs with it, though I drop it down to E as I can’t get near Barnsey’s notes

That's the only cold chisel song I can tolerate

I can’t stand Jimmy Barnes as a vocalist. He has an amazing vocal range but I find his tone really grating, puts me off them as a band. I do like the Chisel songs Mossy sings though.

Barnes's voice definitely grates. I don't mind it so much in Cold Chisel, it seems to be much worse as a solo artist. I can't listen to his solo stuff.

As for Chisel, I love them. I think along with the Go-Betweens & Paul Kelly, they are the quintessential Aussie artists.

Paul Kelly, the Australian Dylan. Great songwriter.
