I remember someone saying Japan is an example of the true dangerous after effects of nuclear war.

They used to be a race of stoic, empire building warriors.
Now it’s all dodgy anime, suspiciously underage looking waifu body pillows, Hello Kitty and tentacle porn.

Well that's what you're suggesting isn't it? Migration to help out a dwindling population.

That's not the same as thinning the blood of the locals. Recent history of migration doesn't show much intermixing, just a general bulking up of the numbers. Whether that really helps the economy, the culture, or indeed the climate, is anyone's guess...so many variables.

Japan's government however say they need more people who will eventually work so there's enough in the tax-koffers to look after the old. They're indeed terrified of this thinning-of-blood concept, being very protective of their own kind. So a possible compromise is to promote japan-interested Westerners to come and work, likely they'd focus on couples & families.

Something has to happen as otherwise the current trend of ultra-low birth-rates will thin the population all by itself.

Well that's what I'm getting at. They don't want to thin the blood, but left to their own devices that country's population will just become extinct one day. They have no other choice really. Just be a real shame to eventually Westernise somewhere as amazing as Japan.

That's the trick. Japan-interest is massive among Westerners, so maybe not that much westernising has to take place as those migrating also want to keep the culture as-is.

Is there a history of mass migration taking place and culture staying as-is?

Tokyo is class. Unless working there or married to a local...very hard to get a long stay visa.

I like their art and I find the traditional theatre interesting.

It strikes me that if there is one country that has done penance for its crimes it's Japan.

From personal experience Spain is still very much Spain, yet has had a lot of migration amongst the lowest native birthrates in Europe. For whatever reason the different folks there, while not intermixing much, live in relative harmony together. Unlike say France or arguably England.

Germany to a certain extent too, tho' the German culture was already quite malleable due to adapting to various intense social changes these last 100 years or so.
