Hundreds of years ago England turned up and colonised it as a part if what England did. Argentina had zero interest in the uninhabited place.

Then it was found that there was evidence of potential oil. Suddenly a desperate dictatorship wanted to claim the islands. Back here a sociopathic dictator decided it was worth spend a lot of lives to keep it and so win the popularity and votes she was desperate for.

Modern Argentina robbed Peruvian Incas and a handful of separate tribes of their land. The invaders and settlers who came to Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, as Argentina was known as part of the Spanish Empire decided to cut loose from the paella munching bosses and go it alone. The land didn't go back to the Inca's, the invaders just didn't want to be paying chorizo taxes.

The Falkland Islands were historically void of any native population, and there has been no displacement of indigenous people throughout history. In 1690, the English captain John Strong, formerly Mr Strong who inspired the Mr Man story, achieved the the first recorded landing in the Falkland Islands. He named the strait between the two primary islands after Viscount Falkland, a British naval official. Subsequently, the name "Falkland" was extended to encompass the entire group of islands. The islands remained entirely uninhabited until 1765, when the British asserted their claim and established a garrison at Port Egmont.

Anyone going against His Ryal Majesty, King Charles right to have his face on coins and tenners in the Falklands is basically calling Roger Hargreaves a baddie.

Best thing about posts like that is that us Jocks get off Scot free.

I was at an Argentina game a few years back and they seemed to quite like the Scots, but disliked England because of The Falklands. I didn't have the heart (or the balls) to tell them that they were actually at war with Scotland too, or that my neighbour (in Scotland) was stationed on the ship that sank the Belgrano.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss 😊

The British convincing themselves they didn’t just turn up in someone elses back yard and steal their land again eh
