Modern Argentina robbed Peruvian Incas and a handful of separate tribes of their land. The invaders and settlers who came to Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, as Argentina was known as part of the Spanish Empire decided to cut loose from the paella munching bosses and go it alone. The land didn't go back to the Inca's, the invaders just didn't want to be paying chorizo taxes.

The Falkland Islands were historically void of any native population, and there has been no displacement of indigenous people throughout history. In 1690, the English captain John Strong, formerly Mr Strong who inspired the Mr Man story, achieved the the first recorded landing in the Falkland Islands. He named the strait between the two primary islands after Viscount Falkland, a British naval official. Subsequently, the name "Falkland" was extended to encompass the entire group of islands. The islands remained entirely uninhabited until 1765, when the British asserted their claim and established a garrison at Port Egmont.

Anyone going against His Ryal Majesty, King Charles right to have his face on coins and tenners in the Falklands is basically calling Roger Hargreaves a baddie.
The struggle of Regan MacNeil.

A thread to discuss all about the islands of Las Malvinas, the islands just off Argentina. Some may also know this place as the Falkland Islands, we are respectful of whatever you wish to call them. Discuss here. Thank you.
Argentina's claim was bubbling along quietly in the back end of Callaghans Labour Govt.

I got the impression that If they would've pushed a bit harder, but in a nice way...provided a few 'guarantees' made a few promises etc, the Labour Govt...that "Crisis? What Crisis?" Govt. Probably would've paid them to take it off their hands.

Been there a few times in different times of the year and always the same weather......sideways rain.
The Argentines can call them what they want to be honest as it doesn't matter. The British Overseas Territory is called the Falkland Islands and the inhabitants wish it to continue. So please cry for me Argentina......

I was down there 89 - 90. It was summer down there but still didn’t stop the freezing cold wind rain and sleet.

It does have a rugged beauty. Whilst down there I managed to get a few days on one of the outer remote islands (Pebble island) the one that the SAS attacked and the remains of the Argie aircraft are still there on the old runway.

Now the pilots have to land and take off on the beach and what a beach it is.

Wildlife is pretty awesome too.
Like you said it has a rugged beauty, but I don't think I'll be going back.... fingers crossed anyway. Flight is enough to put anyone off
