How long has it been since you were on The Hill? It’s not Houston level busy/crowded, but it sure has changed.
Just a couple of years, still have good friends there. Its definitely changed a lot since I went to school there in the 90’s (gosh I’m old…..)

I do wish more left though and not just to Mexico or the Caribbean. A lot of Americans have no clue how the US is perceived internationally. Many assume the world thinks we are the bee knees. As well as their misperceptions that US is the only or "most free" country in the world and has the best of everything.

But then, those are also the last folks I'd want out and about in the world representing the US.
Fair. An American told me ages ago “we make better hosts than we do guests” and it’s always stuck with me. And even then I’d be happy sharing a hotel with Americans because their pos vibes is infectious.

It’s a fair point.

In some fairness to us though, just keeping track of things here stateside takes some doing. I’ve been in Europe and had people bring up how Americans are only focused on things in the US and then proceed to tell me how much they know about their European neighbors…..while perhaps not factoring in just how large and diverse the US itself actually is. People in Texas keeping up with California and New York (or say Wisconsin) is, to me, not much different than people in France being aware of things in Germany or Spain.

I think more Americans are aware of the world at large than our reputation suggests, but undoubtedly there are those who are not curious and haven’t even left their state, much less given thought to other continents.

About the only thing I disliked was in low level/mid restaurants. I can read a menu but would always get some lovely waitress who insisted on repeating the menu verbatim taking about five minutes. If I got fed up I’d ask her what was the tenth thing on the menu again and so would follow another couple of minutes. On reflection I feel bad about my bad manners, but for those that did it I would always leave a generous tip and thank them afterwards…….

I’m off to NYC in a few weeks. Third time since 2015, only going for a week. Doing the beast, Summit at Vanderbil, taking in a Yankees game, and going to Coney in the evening. Does anyone else have anything they can recommend, they may be off the beaten track?
