Just too many runs in the end. Wasn't really as one sided as the margin suggests, but England didn't have enough batters who kicked on after getting in. Too many 20s and 30s and not enough 60 or 70s.

Not a bad effort but that big partnership away from really threatening, Bumrah and Jaiswal the matchwinners with that spell from Bumrah being the defining period for me. Less credit to Gill who benefitted from a run of terrible umpiring.

Plenty to like though in a game that was a bad toss to lose.

The openers do their job more often than not, especially Crawley.

Anderson is still a marvel.

3 inexperienced spinners not only look up to it but full of confidence which is credit to the environment, a long way from cook ending a spinners careers if he has a bad spell or doesn't laugh at swanns jokes. The Indian pundits were talking about England seeing Ahmed as developing into a top 6 all rounder (before he jumped in at 3).

Foakes not only returned to expected standards behind the stumps but was better than ever imo.

For the next game if Root can bowl I would be tempted to bring in Ollie Robinson for Bash, he went well in Pakistan and has the control to do well here. Speaking of Root I don't fancy us competing unless he starts getting runs with the bat.

Been some real stinkers this test, especially some incredibly straight balls to Gill. The umpires are fully aware of umpires call so should be making decisions accordingly

As much as Stokes has managed to get a tune out of him I don't think Leach is built for test cricket

The fact he's able to play as it is - and to have played so much over the last few years - is quite something in itself

But he just doesn't have the ability to stay fit and is definitely the first on the chopping block of the bowling stocks
