400 dollars? Why are you interested in buying if you think it will go down to that level.

I don’t think it’s going to go down that low.

I think that's it's natural level. It's a commodity item not an investment medium.

It'll bounce around the $1000 mark for a while before it settles dowb

Not yet but I’d rather have what I have made out of crypto than nothing at all.

where is the inate value derived from though?

The recent hammering will scare off the Joe Publics that are needed to feed the speculation frenzy.......
I do think it’s now mainstream enough to be linked quite closely to equities price wise, so if that moves up it will go up with it.

If equities tanks then yes it could go down. 400 usd would signal a total rout in equities though imo.

How is it linked to equities?

Equities are based on a share of a real tangible entity and contain both an income component and the opportunity of capital appreciation (generally based on an increased perception of future earnings potential).

Equities are (generally) fully regulated and are feed for pension funds.

Equities offer a chance to guide and influence the underlying company.

Unless Ive missed something Crypto currencies don't offer any of the above?

I’m talking about the price correlation as they do ‘appear’ to be now following each other to an extent. The reasons for that are not entirely clear.

At any rate I have to say in my opinion the valuation of a lot of companies is completely misguided.

I’m sure you like me have seen plenty of companies that look solvent and sound on paper vanish over night.

Correlation does not indicate causation.

How can you be sure your opinion on the valuation of Bitcoins isn't also completely misguided Kev?

I’m not saying it isn’t. It could be.

I’m saying valuation of most things is very difficult. Crypto isn’t alone at all in that regard.

If you’re very risk averse then don’t invest.

fair points generally but crypto currencies have nothing to support them so they stand alone in that regard..no?

Again I don’t agree that they are neccesarily any more risky than equities in terms of price.

Sorry if you feel that’s dodging the question but I look at investments in terms of risk levels.

True, like the Irish. No back bone in there body.

Is that supposed to be funny? Your continual sniping at all things Irish is laughable but at some point you need to be called out for it. You wouldn't get away with it if I was black as you'd rightly be pilloried but somehow you think it's acceptable? Its racism pure and simple.
