Dalian Atkinson murder/manslaughter trial

I acutally see this as a good result because he was never going to be convicted of murder. Let's just hope he's given a long sentence and not just a token jesture behind bars.

Awful ruling from looking at the facts, and what the poor man seemed to be going through with his mental health.

How was the adequate response to the situation to bypass their safety protocols and over-taser, then beat the living daylights out of the man, when he was no longer a threat?!

Shocking, and there will be many more cases like this to come with the changes to laws that this dictatorship have pushed through.

Hopefully some justice (if slight) for the family of Dalian.

He was one of my favourite non-everton footballers from my younger days - scored some absolute worldies and I always hoped we would sign him!

The scum booing the taking of the knee will be cheering that decision. Vindicated by the judicary.

Black lives dont matter.
I suspect the legal argument is around intent. Did the officer set out to kill Atkinson in a premeditated way? Probably not.

But he clearly either completely lost control or decided that he needed to use a ridiculous amount of force which he would have known runs the risk of serious harm. My view is itbis the latter and a strong sentence, and message, is needed.

Got to be voluntary man slaughter, anything else will cause trouble and rightfully look like preferential justice because of job and victim.

I'd say the same if it were a nightclub bouncer dealing with a coked up scally.

But yeah, its a difficult and emotionally fraught one with a stack of politics around it.
Done a bit of "control and restraint" back in the day lots of training and what prison service and policies use/d . Really is the golden area head and neck your on your own when you start doing things like head kicking. And can't excuse the head kicking revolting sick person does that, you intend to kill!

Putting aside the legal definition of murder: he tasered Atkinson 3 times and once 6x the time length of a legal tasering. Then he decided to execute a couple of volleys with his reinforced boots into the forehead of a man prostrate.

Any member of the public did that and it'd be regarded and judged as murder.

The law falls short on police brutality. You could argue no officer intends to kill the victim in a premeditated way, because they wouldn't have been near the victim had they not been called to their location.

A brutal killing by the police that would have gone unnoticed if Dalian Atkinson didn't have a relatively high profile due to his footballing ability. Black, mental health issues? Absolute disgrace. I hope the sentence reflects the downright awfulness of this terrible crime.

Black lives don't matter it seems.

It's a disgrace, but that bottom line ain't true unfortunately. It's ridiculously hard to charge someone for murder these days. One of my mates cousins got jumped a couple years back and was booted by two guys so hard that he was left in a vegetative state before they eventually had to switch the machine off. They got charged with manslaughter as no intent could be proven.

The law is crooked and bent in the favour of a decent solicitor.

To be clear, two of the attempts were unsuccessful and the final attempt was over the standard deployment (recommend time), but there's not a legal length.
