And fair enough, tit mode off, you have every right to be.

Horrible to read that. Hope your girl is sound these days.

mate ... shes a total inspiration. I know I'm biased , but honestly , ive never met anyone so brave and strong in my life.
not only did she have to go through a painful recovery to walk again ,but operation after operation , go to consultant after consultant , physio after physio , therapist after therapist , go to this test and that test travelling all over the country ,and meetings with barristers and lawyers ..... but through all that she also worked part time and did a masters degree in fine art ..... which she completed last week.

the policeman I met at the hospital the night she was hit said she should be dead ,and the dr said every bone that could be broken got broken . her surgeon told me a few weeks ago hes flabbergasted at her strength and has never met anyone like her.

so id say to any drink driver or dangerous driver .... id love for you to see 5 minutes of the pain suffering and indignity my daughter went through , and think again before getting in your car drunk or not 100% switched on to others safety on the road.

She sounds a tremendous girl mate and you're both far more qualified to speak about the ills of drink driving than I.

I haven't met you but sincerely pleased to hear a happy ending. Congratulations on the art degree, you must be very proud.

Absolutely ace, that. Congrats to her.

proud and in awe of her . shes my hero lol

but justice ..... because he admitted jumping the light and that he drove for a living , and 'losing his job , was punishment enough' ..... they gave him 3 points (he already had points so , this meant he lost it) and a 9 month ban.

I was so angry , wasn't justice imo . but I just had to turn that anger and hate into determination to look after my daughter.

Very glad the cyclist wasnt hurt. Its very suspicious he drove off after hitting someone/something.
Whats annoying about this is that he was out boozing in the first place when really he should be focusing on recovery and doing all he can to get back fit.
If he had gone out on the razz then got in his car like Pennant repeatedly did then Id say it was grounds for a severe reprimand but excess blood alcohol could be a very fine margin (although he still should have known better)
Pienaar got banned about 3 or 4 years ago didnt he?

He without sin cast the first stone/'sack him' shout.

I'm going to do my best to stay off my moral high-horse here, people make mistakes and I personally have made plenty. I believe in second chances and everything. I don't want to pretend to have insights into Gibson's state of mind, but I wouldn't be surprised if his behavior was related to depression over his injuries. It's can be easy to lose track of how many drinks you've had, but I don't think this was a case of Gibson having one too many after an evening at the pub...after he hit the cyclist, he drove away and crashed into a pump at a petrol station... he had to have been fully pissed.

Chico raised good points about whether we would be calling for his sacking if it was a more important player. If, say, Baines were the one who did this, I don't know if I would want to get rid of him, but I do know that I would lose a profound amount of respect for him as an individual.

The drink driving isn't the biggest issue for me, like I said, everyone makes mistakes. It's the fact that he drove off without making sure that the cyclist was okay. Staying there and phoning for help could be the difference between life and death, especially if a head injury was involved.

I haven't followed Everton for very long, and was only starting to get into the club during Duncan Ferguson's last season. I know he had his own issues, but for those who know the man better than I do, if he was in this situation, do you think he would have stopped to check on the cyclist?

I don't believe in keyboard outrage and moral brigading, these are just a few meandering thoughts. In the United States, two MLS players this season have been arrested for drink driving, and have been forced to enter treatment programs (I don't think this is necessarily the right approach btw, as Chico said, drink driving does not always mean you have a problem abusing alcohol). With Vidal's incident as well, this seems like a problem that the football world may have to put a system in place to deal with.

Wow you have a remarkable young woman in your daughter.

I hope she goes on to succeed in every aspect of her life, personally and professionally - she certainly deserves to do so. Congratulations on her masters.
