If he stays fit, he's exactly the player we don't have. A midfielder that gets the ball and sprays a great pass. Remember when he first signed, we went unbeaten in like 25 games he played in

The bottom line is how fit is he in real terms. How much game time can he put in but on top of that what of his fitness to last in excess of 90 minutes.

but he is a crock and things will only worsen as he gets older, bit part player at best nowadays, time to ship out unfortunately.

This.

Gibson was brought in by Moyes to add some stability to our midfield, and he did that.

But now four years on, he is not mobile enough, not creative enough, not a good enough tackler, is too slow and injury prone. He's an okay passer, but he's not a Glenn Hoddle type who can pick a truly destructive, defence splitting pass. He's not a go-to guy, he's not an engine room midfielder aka Reidy at his peak or a Bracewell.

If we are going to make a top level managerial appointment... A Jose, Pellegrini or Low type of manager, do we seriously expect Gibson to feature in their planning?

While he's still got some mileage in him and therefore some transfer market value, better for both parties if he moves on to a club where he'll get the chance to play more regularly and earn his wages.

People can say "if he stays fit he's boss" all they want, if my uncle had knockers he'd be my aunty. This has been the same issue for years now, bloke barely manages 10 games per season and most of them are cup games where we just play a second string. He doesn't live the life of an athlete which has undoubtedly contributed to his injury problems and consequently lost the best years of his career. We need to bin off all the dead weight we're carrying, no player should be getting a free wage.

He is a classy passer, but alas his legs have gone in a nutshell sums up all the other post about him - a good solid game again, shows MaCarthy up easily as he is so poor!

If we get a new manager, I can see that neither Gibson, McCarhty or Barry will have any further future here, too old now when it may come to team building.

...I appreciate he hasn't been getting picked but it is amazing how many players start contributing once their contracts are due for renewal. I like Gibson, he was imperious in those early days but I think it is possible to improve the squad by replacing him.

Ditto Eggs, I think he is a useful player on his day, he has Gravesen qualities but too injury prone and missed too many games, we are not getting value for money on a wages/games ratio.
